I have a KDF tactical character and the only character. I have invested skill points heavily in tactical tree, and moderately in Eng tree specially on powers related to hull, eps and shield, and none in sci abilities.
For a few days, I am toying with the idea to use my Bortas. However, I have no idea what BO setup and consoles I should have. I assume that I'll need to go for anti-proton beamboat approach with beamover load and emergency power to weapon (and shield). I might even try some other battlecruiser which is more tactical oriented in terms of firepower and tactical consoles.
Any other recommendations you may have?
Which battlecruiser has the best turn rate? (I won't be using RCS console as it has very little impact on turn rate)
Generally, I've leaned heavily towards beam arrays for Cruisres, KDF or Fed. Superior arcs and more chances for more weapons hitting. Depending on the turn rate of the Cruiser, most esp. something like a Vor'Cha, you may afford to throw in something narrower in arc and more powerful. That really helps when you're part of the group decloaking and doing an alpha strike. But if it turns into a scrum where you're turning and banking, then the narrow arcs will be an issue, and that's where normal beam arrays really shine.
As for a Tac Captain in a Cruiser, it can work and it can be nasty if you know what you're doing. There's lots of ways in doing this too. Naturally, ensure you have Tac Team somewhere for offensive boost and as well as automatic shield balancing. One of my favorite ways is to *allow* getting damage through to your hull, getting below 50% or something like that, whatever feels comfortable, then suddenly popping up Emergency Power to Shields, Tactical Tm, and if you want, Transfer Shield Strength (maybe a bit later). With strong shields covering your heavily damaged hull, then you hit "Go Down Fighting," pop a Weapon Battery or Red Matter Capacitor, BO or Fire At Will, then profit.
Keep your shield strength up, don't heal your hull until "Go Down Fighting" wears off. It can last a good long while and you will surprise some guys by how much damage you're suddenly doing.
"Go Down Fighting" in a Cruiser is really the only time you get to make the most of this nasty ability, because the margin of survivability in an Escort when it's hull starts to get beaten down is very small. But a Cruiser can take the pounding more, and still pop its shields up to cover it's hull damage.
