If your ship is worth a hoot you should be able to solo the Kang without any of the borg ships ever getting close enough to fire a shot. The opportunity to do this rarely occures because there are usually 4 other players that think they need to protect the Kang too.

Either that or, as mentioned earlier, they ignore it altogether.

In a normal PUG, 3 fleet players appeared along with 2 newbie PUGgers doing their first normal ground STF.

The noobs were very friendly and offered to coordinate tactics with the veteran players.

Veteran players replied "PLZ LOOK AT MY GEAR" and so it was silent running.

Halfway through the match I discovered the 2 noobs were doing most of the tanking and heavy damage with innovative use of expose and exploit weapons. One would fire a minigun salvo from overwatch position and mow down drones and the other would standby with a compression pistol to totally pwn the elite tac drones with single shots doing massive damage.

Where were the "veterans"? They did negligible useful damage and stayed far from the battle as though afraid of one-shots.

The noobs could actually tank the tac drones or dodge fire and their shields and armor had very high plasma resistance ([Pla] [PlaTet] armor etc). Being engineers both they could also repair shields on the fly even without MACO set.

Turret demolition was likewise very fast, with one noob with demolition kit and the other with quantum mortars.

The fleet 'veterans' all charged in to plant demolition charges all at once but neglected to draw aggro off from the small turrets. They realized this the hard way halfway through and one of them tried to compensate with his MACO battle rifle... which did minor damage to the small turret. Noob whipped out a compression pistol and pwned the small turrets in 3 seconds flat at point blank range.

The rest of the map progressed on similar note with the newbies leading and demolishing everything in their path with engineering skills and expose/exploit chains. The newbies' reaction times to changing tactical conditions was spectacular, while the still arrogant and hostile 'veterans' still insisted on remaining as far away from the battle as possible.

When it came to the boss (Armek), one of the fleeties took a TEN MINUTE BREAK stalling the entire attack and killing her team's morale and then, for the first time in the entire game, started barking orders at everyone.

And the noobs politely declined comment, since, if people wanted to follow textbook rules and textbook procedures to win, those fleet players should at least be competent at that.

But for everything else, two STF ground newbies did the majority of the heavy hitting and didn't die even once thanks to good use of Engineering skills and innovative normal gear setup.

Famous last words - someone in MACO XI costume saying on team chat PLZ LOOK AT MY GEAR... and doing the worst DPS in the team.

Oh that's easy, though -- they're new to STFs / just generally terrible players with no snares or DPS, so hangin' out by the vortex gives them little time on-target before they probes get through, likely at low health but still alive nonetheless.

The amount of KASEs with a failed optional 'cause one player is too proud to ask for help until the probes are practically bumpin' uglies with the vortex is frustrating.

Lately I've been having huge "success" in getting in IGE PuGs that have no idea how the assimilation of the officers works and then get all confused when they trigger the first one and fail to rescue him/her in time (is the first one always that caitian female, or do I just tend to see her a lot in my runs?).

'course this happens in normal, too, but at least there it's way easy to bum-rush the officers and save them.

These IGE runs also had a good number of folks who liked to swim in the plasma in the boss room, but I don't hold that against anyone. Sometimes lag kills, and if you're used to the green bridges it's not necessarily easy.

On a more positive note, the other day in DS9 zone chat overall agreed that the instant remod is a huge boon and, as far as I was able to tell, advised some players asking questions to go ahead and complete a MK X set rather than hold out for MK XI (and, of course, not at all to hold off until they got MK XII). Good advice in DS9?? It can happen!

Seems like there's a trend for people in ISN PUGs to dogpile on the closest generators to the Borg gateway... and then be all puzzled about what to do next.

Some go after Spheres. Some might hit the other generators. One or two even thinks about going after Nanites. I'm totally shocked if anyone else carries Grav Well after they've piled onto the closest generator... it's like, "CC? OMG, ya think?"

Sure, it's ISN... but it takes effort to fail the Optional in ISN. Why not take the opportunity to do it the right way?

The best is seeing grav well hit a generator and then nothing done to stop the nanites. This is more frustrating if I'm on a character/ship that doesn't have a snare/crowd control of its own.

Lately, all of KASE I ran are bad experiences. Everytime there's one or two leavers. KASE is an extremely boring stf because two players have two kills probe. It's like factory job. And after there's Donatra which is really and extremely aggressive. She can run after a player, when she acquire a target she doesn't forget it until she kill it. So. Yesterday I was happy. Eventhough we lost optionnal. 7 probes passed out. We had to deal with Donatra. But... there the nightmare started. One tac didn't understand it's useless to be front on Donatra. Respawn => shot =>die=> waiting for timer => respawn => shot => die. He got more than 1minute 30.
Another tac has no dps. A tac with a caitan and me we deal with donatra. It took 1 hour. We were 5 and we needed 90 minutes to end up KASE.
