What is the difference between a shield battery, one for a weapon, an aux unit and an engine. You can say that's it, they each give energy for different systems. But they do give energy and all systems use energy. Can't the make a battery that can function for all the systems in the 24th century?

There are a few batteries that are rare items that can do 2 systems at once. They are usually in a lock box. Check the exchange.

But yeah if you get the red matter you won't need batteries. Its a go to for me when I HYB or need to use aux systems where I spend no energy points.

Red matter if you have the collector's edition. But if you don't, then you can go with the Enhanced Plasma Manifold, which affects shields and aux.
