I couldn't find it in the game, and the info an stowiki seems outdated or incomplete.

My tac captain is able to train Tactical Team 3, but I have no idea how he aquired that ability. My Sci and Eng captains don't have the ability to trin Sci or Engineering Team 3.

So, how is this ability unlocked for a given captain?

For science team 3 you must have a science toon trained in Particle Physics rank 6
For Engineering team 3 you must have rank 6 in Repairs on an engineering toon.

In Particle Physics. And what is that? There is no such skill on my list. :-)

My engineer has 9 ranks in it.

All 3 team skills depend on ground skill.

Particle Physics = Tier 5 science ground skill

Repairs = Tier 2 engineering ground skill.

Just check the skill descriptions and it will tell you if 1 of the teams depends on it.

Read the descriptions in the captain's skill tree. Some skills allow you to train things for your boffs based on the level you have in the required skill. Usually level 6 unlocks the training ability if there is one, and if you are the required class.
