I am about to be promoted to captain and frome there its about two or three days to VADM so i think not too early to ast: I see all these VADM flying aroud with Borg and MACO tech, which i want to have too mainly because of the faster warpdrive and better shields but i need to know:

What do i need, how much of that, where do i get that and what to do else. A total How-to for Dummies

I heard something about EDC, Borg Drops and other stuff but that doesnt really help

Since i got so much help and grat answers to all my questions in this short time that i am active here i hope you can help me this time too.

I almost forgot: Since i can only play one Character at a time can i use the Mail for this advanced stuff too?

You get Encrypted Data Chips, Borg Salvage, and if the game really likes you, Borg Technology from doing the 5-man Special TaskForce (STF) missions that open up at level 45.

You can use the EDC and technology to buy Borg, Maco, Honour Guard, and Omega sets from the STF vendor on Deep Space Nine. Before you can access the STFs, you'll get a mission to go talk to Admiral D'Vak about the STFs, and he's in the same place as the vendors, so that's how you find them. You can also use the EDC and the Salvage to buy weapons, deflectors, shields etc. that are not part of the sets. But be prepared to do a lot of STFs to get the stuff you need.

The Borg set is 5 EDC each for the Deflector, Engine and Shield (don't waste 5 EDC on the shield, it's rubbish). There's also a universal console that you get from the mission "Assimilated" that goes with it.

MACO / Omega / Honour Guard Sets come in Mk X, Mk XI and Mk XII varieties, prices as follows:

Mk X - 20 EDCs or 1 Common Borg Tech per piece
Mk XI - 40 EDCs or 1 Rare Borg Tech per piece
Mk XII - 1 Prototype Borg Tech per piece.

Note that Tech drops rarely, and will be for a specific part of the set (ie. Engine or Shield) depending on which STF your doing:

Infected - Shield (Space) / Personal Shield (Ground)
Cure - Engine (Space) / Personal Weapon (Ground)
Khitomer Accord - Deflector (Space) / Armour (Ground)

And the stuff is bound to whichever character earns it. So you can't mail it.

Go for Borg set + M.A.C.O shields, seems to be hands down the best set in the game currently.

Borg Deflector
Borg Engines
Borg Console <--- available in the assimilation mission.

The set will give you, a possibility of hull regen, and shield regen. The 4 piece bonus is usually considered worthless as it's a tractor beam. The M.A.C.O shields has a higher capacity and will channel attacking enemy energy damage into your subsystems. So you get a +5 from every Borg piece and a potential of up to another + 5 to everything from the shield. Also if your using repulsars or gravity well the + 38 graviton generators from this setup helps alot.

Grind STFs until you can't stand them anymore, then grind some more.

Disagree.

The MACO shield has an extra 10% all energy resist (+ 20% plasma resist that all STF store stuff has) built into it that ordinary Resilient shields don't have. It's worth it. It's definitely better than non-set Covariants, even purple Mk XIIs you get from the STF store.

And players can't choose between the MACO and KHG shields anyway, it's dictated by their faction. The alternative option is the Omega.
