# 1 Generic Starship Maker
08-03-2012, 09:44 AM
I had an idea to ad a bit of roleplay flavor to the game concerning different faction ships for players.

At the moment everyone is hot for lockbox ships with endgame stats which (mostly) look like the canon ships from Cardassian, Ferengi, Dominion, etc.

For most of us these are still unobtainable, but would be nice for roleplaying.

Now I propose:

Add a generic ship maker tool to the starship shop.

Give us a bit of customization options to make our own configuration for "Generic Ships".

These ships should not be endgame material, but rather have starter ship stats like the tuffli freighter.

You could for example choose between small crafts, medium spaceships, starships.

(no, 1,2,3) Nacelle type, (no.1,2,3) pylon type, (1,2,3)primary hull type and (no,1,2,3) secondary hull type.

For monetization put hull textures into the c-store.

Those could be

Starfleet/Federation, Klingon, Orion, Gorn, Romulan, Cardassian, Dominion, Deferi, Hirogen... maybe even Borg.

Those would not resemble the actual faction starship configurations and wouldn't hold a candle to them statwise.

But they'd be a godsend to us roleplayers.

I just created a Romulan Character who is actually supposed to be Romulan Faction and picked up the Peregrin Fighter, with the veteran Hull and a mostly green paint looks vaguely Romulan enough with some imagination.
Still extremely limited.

With a bit more generic options you can always create a cool RP ship without killer stats and sector space would start to look really interesting.

Thoughts and further ideas?

Already explained by a developer that every ship type has a "skeleton" that connects all the pieces together, and it only works for that ship.

If you add the Hull of a Blockade Escort, Saucer of a Galaxy cruiser, Nacelles of a Miranda, and Pylons of an intrepid, what you will get is 4 individual pieces not even remotely connected to each other. They'd all be floating in the exact position that they're suppose to be for their own vessel's skeletons.

Ah, no, you misunderstood...

I meant, a series of new (I know, bizarre concept) starship parts, which are generic enough to stand in for nearly all faction designs with the right hullskin material.

Kit-bashing starships - that is designing your own starships like say making a single TOS nacelle under a TOS Connie saucer and neck?

Nope...that was a requested option or ability since way back when and has been denied repeatedly.

Still no.

What I am talking about is Cryptic designing a completely new battery of combinable ship parts for configurations that are not faction specific in a canon sense at all.

Those parts would be completely faction agnostic and usable by any player for a generic ship which can then by given a flavor appearance by a basic ship hull texture to emulate Federation, Klingon, Romulan, etc...flavor.

Those Skins would be C-Store character only purchases to tailor make RP flavoured starter quality ships without going the expensive engame ship route which require lockboxes and the green light from CBS.

Btw this type of ship is classified as a Destroyer/Scout, of the Saladin Class. According to the Starfleet Technical Manual copyright 1975.

As to the OP I think hes wanting an entire new class of Civilian and Mercenary style ships. I would love to see these as well, but in the end I doubt we will. As design Limitations would be cost prohibitive. IE they wouldnt make enough money to cover the costs of making them let alone, making a profit. These would be pretty much a third faction as far as even designing them goes. I would buy them but as they wont be seen oh well.

May the Prophets guide us in these cryptic times....

Or similar to the U.S.S. Kelvin of 2009.

Add in the approval process needed before a ship design is allowed to progress from the design board into the game and I agree with the outcome. I doubt that we will see any sort of "custom built" ships.

I have that same technical manual. It's in the bookshelf right behind me, handy to look up now and then.

They also had ideas for a "Dreadnaught" class starship- a Constellation with 3 Nacelles much like the Galaxy-X.
