Does this mean that not only certain parts of a ship e.g. torpedo launchers but the hull as well? Certain things should have to be repaired in a dry dock. I know you have to balance fun vs. realism but magical healing would take it too far if you'd ask me.
I agree...i would hope that only shields will repair when not in combat. Everything else in docks. Seems more natural this way...Oh an yeah....i am also desperately waiting for the beta

Meh I don't see how forcing you to go to dry dock every time a weapon gets damaged is fair. anything below 60% hull damage should just give serious penalties if you don't do anything about it. 60% and above should be repairable.

Awesome update whatever the case, and it sounds like they're taking it mostly towards Bridge Commanders Style of combat, awesome! No offence to SFC's creators hehe, but BCs got the better system.

As expected, Romulans and their D'Deridex Warbird. Though I was surprised in seeing the 22nd Century version of the Romulan Bird-of-Prey (from Enterprise).

So does this mean that like the Klingons, the Romulans got nostalgic and started building R-BoP's again? And are we to expect flying ships that resemble the NX-01? (Outside the Akira, you jokesters. :p)

Why not the hull? Ships in the Star Trek shows repaired themselves all the time with out a dock.

If I recall correctly in a recent Path to 2409, starfleet had adopted a "modular" approach to starship design, meaning that ships may be repaired more easily while in space and to reduce the need for starbase visits. I would equate this to mean that minor to moderate hull damage could be repaired in space, perhaps if you had the skills or replicator credits to replace bad parts.

Something like that.. I'm sure there will be definitive lines drawn on when you should return to spacedock or repair while venturing out.

The two Romulan ships are mismatched with their captions for the article, they seem to suggest we can have Romulan vessels as player ships.

There is no other game that I await as eagerly as this one. I think I just might explode messily all over at any moment. I want!

While I like the graphics, I really do not like the extent of the 'Warp Trails'. They really stand out on the War Bird.

I hope the second Romulan ship is 'HUGE', rather than being a shrunk down version of the Dderidex ship. Look at how much bigger it is compared to the TNG Enterprise:
I also am concerned about the 'shield color' and how they will be implemented. I know it is still early, so I am sure it will be polished up so that it works for everyone generally.

Overall a nice article.

I am kinda curious about the shield color as well. Personally I think our scanners can tell us the damage on the enemies shields. Doesn't really matter to much, it still seems to be shaping up to be a great game!
