# 1 Engineer in a carrier?
08-09-2012, 02:45 PM
For an Engineer, is flying a carrier a good idea? Also, if it is, would the Marauder or the Vo'quv be better? The Vo'quv seems tougher, but the Marauder has more engineer stations and only one flight deck.
The Fleet Vo'quv looks really nice too.
I'm looking to be tanky and still have some dps.
Or should I just stick to cruisers?
Any advice?

One of my KDF engineers is using the Vo'Quv Carrier. It works quite fine, in fact. Despite the Sci-heavy BOFF arrangement, the thing handles closer to a Cruiser and has the hull points for one. You also may be prioritizing heavily between your subsystem power, so the Engineer EPS power level buff is always golden. You want strong shield, weapon, engine, and aux power, because the Carrier really has major uses for all those subsystems. Not to mention the heartrending feeling of attacking a carrier and almost destroying it, but the Engineer captain of that carrier uses "Miracle Worker", a few hull/shield heals, then starting nearly over at square 1. All while the next wave of fighters / frigates come spewing out with more beams and torps coming at you.

An Engineer in a Carrier works very well.

The Tholian Recluse Carrier might be worth checking out, and the exchange prices on the Recluse have been pretty good for a lock box type ship.

I have a Recluse Carrier, but I don't want to use it on either of my Tac captains, so I'm holding on to it to use with an Engineer toon later on.

A friend with an Eng Captain and the Orb Weaver, says really loves that ship. So he is planning to get the Recluse.

I'm an Engineer in the Kar'Fi Carrier, and having a blast! It hsa top level Science and Tactical slots, and my own Eng abilities keep it flying. It's faster than the others and can use cannons. Also, the Advanced Frigates just rock. As an Engineer, I'm very pro-carrier in general, and pro-Kar'Fi in specific.

The Orion ships are Cruisers with a Hanger much like the Armitage is an Escort with a Hanger.

As for the Vo'Quv yeah any captain can make it work if you can adjust your playstyle to Carriers.

Personally I'd go the Kar'Fi as it is one of our better ships despite the lack of a Fleet Variant.
I was once DKnight1000, apparently I had taken my own name so now I'm DKnight0001.
If I ask you a question it is not an insult but a genuine attempt to understand why.
When I insult you I won't be discreet about it, I will be precise and to the point stupid.

VoQuv is best flown by an engineer. It has two incredible shield heal (and hull) capt abilities which make it a true tank. My VoQuv can easily tank elite STF Cure tac cube+10 spheres at once and not die.. nonstop. It can tank donatra without any risk. Its DPS is very low but it holds aggro and survives while the team does the dps.

Sci capt's cant tank well in the voquv since their capt skills are based on def. rating and debuffing targets in 90 degree frontal arc.. and the fat cow VoQuv is not turning that easy and its bulk and slow speed makes its defense rating suffer. In short, sci capt abilities are negated by the ship itself.

Tac captains get two damage boosting abilities, a resist reduction ability and a timer reduction ability. Damage boosters can be nice but it works only for your ship weapons and the VoQuv is no different than a science ship weapon-wise so no big dps there. You can load dual heavy cannons but good luck keeping the nose on target... even Cubes will flank you and you cant keep the nose aimed . The only ability the tac capt has that is very nice for the VoQuv is the timer reduction ability.
