I'm not entirely sure if that's true, if you look at things like the Defera ground maps. But I doubt you'll be able to re-create the Romulan Colony AND surrounding areas without seriously taxing the limitations of map size for the game.

Please correct me if i'm wrong...

I have no beef with the "Ops" level of the Starbases. They look pretty nice. My beef is with the lower levels which could use some SIGNIFICANT updating, so as to appear "less copied" from other sources.
Well, Manhattan's circumference is 31 miles. So, no, you won't see that. You won't see WoW sized continents without loadscreens either.

You could easily have something like the concept art with a city visible in the distance or a Mayberry sized chunk of city with more visible behind a wall IF there's time to produce that.

If it helps, look at something like Universal Studios theme park:

http://www.universalorlando.com/Imag...cm13-20825.pdf

That's probably about as big as it could get or a bit bigger.

Bigger than the sets or areas used as location shoots for Star Trek. But not as big as a fully city unless there are loadscreens.

For reference's sake, here's a comparison shot of several games:

http://i.imgur.com/uBWCz.jpg

The extreme upper limit for a single STO map would probably be about the size of Grand Theft Auto 3's entire game world, if not a bit smaller.

That IS an engine limitation. But it's not a hard or permanent limitation. The Cryptic engine could be made to support bigger maps with changes in terms of rendering and such. They could make an offline game that supported much bigger worlds.

But consider, GTA3 is a whole game. And is a sandbox game in certain respects.

Making that for a 15 minute mission would be impractical. Making 40+ hours of content for one zone would be impractical.

No, it won't match the concept perfectly, but I'm at least 23.45% sure my work isn't @*!#.

A. Your stuff is "THE" *&$#, aka awesome.

B. My day usually starts with DOFFing on my main then doing the Foundry daily on my alts to get them some XP.

From there I move onto STFs or Fleet Marks depending on what events are in effect.

Play around with doff missions, sell loot from said missions.

Then move onto farming some dil and transfering between characters. Sometimes involving myself in zen trade depeneding on market conditions.

Then chat to a few people and maybe play some STFs or fleet events depending on mood.

Any other spare time is tinkering with builds or ships.
