# 1 Tractor beam

Another Pandora moment coming... I think the tractor beam is too easy to lock on. Fast moving and agile ships like the BOP are given the kiss of death when trapped by a tractor beam. It should be much more difficult to lock a tractor beam on a shuttle or BOP/Escort than a larger cruiser. The overwhelming majority of death in a BOP for me is when caught in tractor. There are several BOFF abilities that state in the description that they provide IMMUNITY to tractor beam, but they never work against pumped up tractor beams. IMMUNITY is clearly defined in the dictionary, the tractor should not work against those abilities. I have even used the mighty AP Omega in futility against monster tractor beams. In one instance I used AP Omega, Polarize Hull and an Aux Power battery and failed to escape the tractor beam. I was furious. This happens all the time. I am not exaggerating this, I die repeatedly at the hands of tractor beams, and virtually every single fed player uses them as the first point of attack against BOPs. The tractor beam is the most powerful weapon in the game against shuttles, fighters and BOPs. That is just plain silly. A simple adjustment to the tractor beam success roll would be suitable. 100% success against slow, heavy crusiers (which have lots of hull and shields, down to say 50/50 or so against shuttles/BOPs. For heaven's sake if an ability gives you immunity for a lousy ten seconds then look up the definition of immunity, please and make it so!

Another possible solution would be to increase the defense rating of a moving fighter/bop/shuttle. I can get nearly 60% defense for my big giant tactical Odyssey Cruiser and the max for the amazingly nimble BOP is only 80%. Really?

First, ok, if the description says it should give immunity to tractor beams and does not I'll give some sympathy.

Second, You go for a setup dependent on maneuverability for defense, ignoring all other defensive abilities, and when someone uses the obvious counter you want to complain? That I have no sympathy for. For that I have only a poorly practiced face palm.

For that I'd image something called (game balance and) a bigger ECM/ECCM suite.

anybody ever wondered why tractor beam is a science ability...when everything more or less suggests it should be an engineering ability. Srsly, it would give engineers the so needed 3rd ensign ability.

But on topic: I'm not sure what you are refering to...attack pattern omega makes me 100% immune, polarize hull too. never encountered a tractor beam that stopped me while any of the 2 were running.

Tractor them back lol, also Attack Pattern Omega raises your defence a lot and not many crusiers or sci ships have that (and if they do they can only use it for 15secs out of 60secs, and a bit longer if they are tac with that recharge shorten ability). Also I believe that the lowest accuracy can go is 25% (read that somewhere forgot where (would be good if somebody clarified that)).

You could try bringing Polarize Hull.

I don't remember anyone in the series saying "Aw... Darn it! I missed with the tractor beam again! Sorry, Captain."

Then its not a tractor beam that was slowing you down. TB is only one of the abilities that can stop a ship. Beam Target Engines plus Energy Siphon can disable your engines if you are running at low engine power. An Aux battery wouldn't help you in this instance - you would need an engine battery.

Gravity Well is also extremely effective on ships with disabled engines, especially if their shields are down.

There may be other abilities that interfere with movement that I'm not even thinking of right now. Were you hit by Chroniton Torps or Mines? There is a whole list of stuff that it could have been.
