Gratefully, this device would not be purely persistant. After a number of seconds countdown or uses, it would have to disapeer to maintain game balance. So at best they become mines that your plant once and use twice.
Perhaps make it not work with the Tactical skill also. If it replicates then it doesn't need to be more then 4 to start with.

How about no more stupid cheesy p2w consoles? We have more then enough already. I like the model of fleet ships better, you pay for a decent boff/console layout and good stats, no gimicky consoles. I hope they do this model for Z-store ships too.

Ahh yes, the old 'I saw it on TV so it must be true' argument, How can I argue with that.

A legendary science officer Spock puts an existing sensor head in a torpedo and invents a weapon that everyone in the UFP faction of STO has access to so why not allow a weapon designed by a mediocre Tactical officer from items that didn't exist (who is viewed as a 'tinkerer' by his DS9 compatriots ) because he has circumvented starfleet protocols by allowing a replicator to replicate explosives, has hacked into starfleet computers to appropriate plans for the U.S.S. Defiant, and built a copy of the ship for his own use on the show.

<sigh> How can I argue with your superior logic ?

I've dug up my DS9 Technical Manual.
It explains what this self-replication system can do and what it can not.

The mine is basically a cargo container with a Photon Torpedo Warhead, a new fuse, a cloak and a replicator with a small raw material storage to replicate a new one.

The raw material stored is enought to provide 1/65th (that's one-sixty-fifth) of the materials of a new mine.
In other words a complete mine field of 66 mines would be a able to replace a single lost mine (the 66th) once by using up all the stored replication material from the remaining 65 mines.
Or, to put it in simpler terms, self-replicating mines in STO would only work with REALLY BIG mine fields.
Otherwise the Starfleet version is basically identical to its Klingon cousin.
It's a cloaked Photon Mine.

Another Fed console? ofc since it is obv. so VERY MUCH NEEDED.
How about a self replicating, better than anything klingons have, tricobalt, self repairing, cloaking, automated defense turret auto deploying, mine ship with an Bikini clad Orion female slave girl painted on the side that cant be targeted by Klingon computers and has an inherent SNB ability?

Yeah, that's right.

I think in their minds they think they can only sell ships if they include them. Though given the price they charge that is perhaps true.

Online stores and Pre-sales used to be more costumes, music cd's, and non combat pets. Things that didn't change game balance. Things that were perhaps $1-$5 per.
Now it's whatever someone can think up, and you should have to go to the Ferengi loan officer on a starbase to get into the shop. A few things I personally don't think are that bad, like a point defense system. Though I really think instead players should have been given the ability to set a turret to point defense mode.

I'm also not so hot on Fleet ships. The retrofits perhaps. The Mirror ships are a little more interesting. If they carried it a little further. A Ship variant instead like perhaps a Science version of say a Raptor. A more generalized version of the Stargazer. Things that still had the faction feel but weren't stuck in a one of three mold.
