Obviously not Atari, since they were in the past, but what would things be like if this game was owned/developed by another company? Something tells me a lot of these names are gonna be auto-censored though.

Here's some examples:

Valve: The game would be awesome all in all, but due to their (or at least Gabe Newell's) triskaphobia, we'd never ever see the number 3 or anything done in 3's...ever.

Bethesda: This game would be about 10 times more open and have a lot more content than has now, but have twice as many bugs, not to mention DLC's and such.

Midway: STO on an arcade machine.

Lucasarts: Now THAT would be interesting. The 'enemy' owning an ST game? Well, at least it'd look good and we'd have space battles to knock your space-socks off.

Maxis: Certainly different, and we'd have like a bazillion different expansions to buy every year.

Rockstar: GTA in space, need I say more?

Not really, I was just giving a few examples, and I actually was going to put it in my post, but changed my mind, figuring I'd let somebody else take it.

Activision...

Thoose guys did a pretty good job on Elite Force (along with their partners) and Bridge commander... Not to mention Armada.

Had some pretty engaging stories too.
My name may say "PWE member", but I will never be.
-NEVER Forget the Screwups and ignorance made towards the people who supported the game through 2011
Don't look silly, don't call it "Zen-Store" - Don't waste devs time, Post proper bug-reports - I don't like Gekos

Bioware: The game would have a better story and humour, but Orion Girls would be everywhere and wear Latex.

Gearbox: Not only would there be 200,000 kinds of phasers, but they would have 6 ways to light you on fire.

id Software: The Borg would take on a more zombie like appearance and you would have to fight off the Fek'ihri every time you used a Transwarp Gate.

Team Ninja: We would have an absolutely incredible melee combat system, but female characters chests would be 40% bigger than they already are.

And they would bounce.

Square Enix: Not much different, but Tellerites would become shorter, cuter and gain cat ears, the Tholian sword would have been 500% bigger, STF's would not only have never been changed from their original state, you'd only be able to access them once a week.

Bandai: The MVAE, Galaxy-R, and Odyssey Ops would still be able to saucer sep, but they would gain the ability to combine and form a larger, more powerful ship. In addition, Klingon ships will be able to punch.

So inhumane superweapons, mass murder, and canon nonsense is okay, but speedos are too much for some people.

BioWare/EA: The majority of STO's budget goes towards paying voice actors, with very little of it going towards things like gameplay and content. We won't have much to play with, but at least the stuff we do have to play with has overpriced voice acting. Cryptic's employees start being abused by EA Games, forced to work mandatory overtime even when it isn't 'crunch time', EA starts paying actors to protest STO to fabricate controversy as a marketing ploy. Tumerboy is found dead chained to his desk surrounded by cans of Red Bull and memos from management telling him to work harder and work faster. The forums become heavily moderated to the point Branflakes and the volunteer moderator team close any thread that has any negativity whatsoever about Cryptic/EA Games. Origin becomes mandatory to install and we all sell our personal information to EA Games in a way that makes Raptr do a double-take. Any disputes we have with them can't reach the courts, as we sign an EULA that says we're forced to use arbitration, signing away our rights as consumers.

I wouldn't want Bethesda to come anywhere near this. Have you played Bethesda games that weren't ES or FO? They're just awful. I have Star Trek: Conquest for the Wii. I paid $5 for it. I felt cheated.

ActivisionBlizzard: Game's micro-transaction release schedule isn't frequent or expensive enough, metacritic bonus clause retroactively added to contract, funding pulled, developers eventually reallocated to creating a foundry for WoW before slowly being replaced.

Blizzard (pre-merger): Cruisers receive two years of consecutive buffs while all other ships get nerfs. Trend mysteriously reverses when the head developer's PVP character switches to an escort.

Square Enix: Crystalline Entity returns worse than before. When an 80 man group finally defeats it after an 18 hour unbroken battle, developers disable the encounter and announce it needs to be buffed to be in line with expectations.

Sony Online: Crystalline Entity returns worse than before. When an 80 man group finally defeats it after an 18 hour unbroken battle, developers take the server offline, ban everybody in the raid, and roll the servers back 24 hours due to "unexpected server instability."

Problem with Bethesda is that they stick the name on stuff that isn't actually made by them, but by other developers owned by Zenimax. It would be kind of like EA slapping Bioware on everything they make. That includes Arkane and id, but also includes a nice list of companies that have all of Bethesda's QA and release date accuracy and none of their redeeming world crafting. If they had STO, it would be out of Zenmiax Online, and we'll have to wait for ESO to know just how bad their games are.

Indie Developer: STO is the best game ever made. The soundtrack is catchy. The content is written and sustained by a group of devoted fans. The forums are friendly. Graphics are a bit less, but still pretty. PvP ladders are established and a sport is born. Landing on planets can entertain for days, with beaming down to customized worlds that players own. RPers can pay to have a GM host a private event, giving a whole new depth of immersion for special occasions.

Unfortunately, no one plays it because the bigger companies buy out every place that even mentions it.
