The camera setting in space that allows the camera to follow (trail) the players ship is awesome. BUT, would it be possible to allow players to change WHERE the camera trails from?
could this possibly be a cuztomization option in the ship tailor?
the way I see this working is as follows:
you need three planes, one horizontal, two vertical.
the horizontal plane will control the up/down position.
for example, above or below the saucer section on a galaxy?
this plane could be moved by looking at the front/rear or left/right sides of a ship
the first vertical plane will be perpendicular to the horizontal plane and will move from the front of the ship to the back of the ship.
for example, on a galaxys saucer? or on a galaxys nacelle?
this plane could be moved by looking at the left/right sides of a ship
the third plane, and second vertical plane, will be perpendicular to both the first and second planes, it would control moving from the left to the right of the ship.
for example, the right or left nacelle of a galaxy?
this plane would be moved by looking at the front/rear of a ship
the intersection of these three planes would be the camera.
now I have no idea if this is possible, or if just imputting X,Y,Z coordinates would be faster/simpler. but either way being able to put the camera on the nacelle of my ship and fly it would be awesome, especially on an escort. IMO anyway.
I also support the idea of being able to do rolls / loops with ships in space. but thats for another topic.
