Hey I just heard that Julio Torres now works for Cryptic and was the guy who programmed the dilithum system for STO. This is the same Julio Torres who basically ignored any community input from the fans of SWG and implemented the NGE. Him and John Smedley are the two people who basically destroyed SWG which would lead to it's shutting down.

NGE will forever be associated with Julio Torres as that project was his baby. Once he took the reins from Blackman who was in charge previously of SWG. He single handedly destroyed the game and how he works for Cryptic. With that said, now i'm beginning to see why STO's quality has gone down tremendously as of recent.

First let me say that SWG was not destroyed by NGE. Most of us didn't like NGE in 2005, but the game survived and continued on for 6 years after NGE - and would still be going if it wasn't for SWTOR. So what one person hates another lives with.

Also, the Julio rumor was started about a year ago. Stormshade posted on the subject and reaffirmed that he was not part of the team: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/sh...9&postcount=32

10 seconds of research can go a long way.

I don't know if anything that you are saying is true. But, most likely, you don't know anything really about how things went down behind the scenes. You may just be scape goating some poor guy who now has a job at Cryptic after surviving the NGE stuff.

These are real people associated with real names. To bring out your pitch fork based on some prior assumption about their pivotal role in DOOOOM while predicting DOOOOM seems uncalled for.

This was a false rumor debunked by devs. The whole thing was started in a troll forum post back when dilithium came out.

To add to what cosmic1 said, when NGE launched the game had already lost more players than were left. The game had put up very poor retention rates for a pre-WoW MMO, had by the most generous figures (low-skewed early numbers and high-skewed later ones) they were down to about two thirds of their peak when WoW launched, and half of that when NGE launched. Two thirds of that a few months later, dropping to a third before the slow bleed out from there until shutdown. At that point they still had about a fifth of what they did just before NGE - possibly more because it had passed into the undeath phase where new players were nonexistent and existing players reduce playtime, making the peak population estimate method progressively less accurate.

But, yeah, not working for Cryptic, not working on STO, not responsible for the dilithium system, not involved with the ground overhaul. In fact, all of his video game credits, before and after SWG, are Star Wars games.

SWG was killed by the NGE. Before NGE, a small amount of players left due to simple MMO fatigue. Julio Torres was blinded by the astonishing numbers that WoW was putting up at the time. WoW is a phenomeon that even today defies MMO history. More like the stars and the moon aligned and BAM 11 million players. Julio also couldn't comprehend the system that was created, which arguably is the most ROBUST system ever created in MMO history. He took it, simplified it to something his mind and expertise could comprehend and destroyed the game. It was a mass exodus after NGE was implemented.

You have you opinion, we have ours. Either way it doesn't matter. The point of your original post is moot: Julio had nothing to do with anything on STO.

So we now know where B'Elanna got her stubbornness from. And I always thought she got it from her mother's side.
