So how does one private message (pm) someone in chat? I seem to see that referenced a lot in the chat window. "hey I've got __________ pm me for details" etc.

I was pm'd earlier today and I responded that only way I knew how and it went out in the ZONE response.

If you get a message you can allways right click on thier name in chat, theres a set of options including send PM - will give more info ect

/Tell thiername yourmessage and /reply yourmessage

You can also manually type out the command if you want, which is: /tell name@handle, <Message>

Also, if you receive a tell, the default key to reply is Backspace.

You can also use the Backspace key to reply to the last person who sent you a /tell. That key will work so long as you won't have the chat window active (i.e. blinking cursor, ready to type, etc.).

Starfleet is a military organization, after all (Picard's wishful thinking notwithstanding), so the proper method of training someone is:

1) Tell them what you're going to tell them.
2) Tell them.
3) Tell them what you told them.

It's all in the manual.

and then every 6 months do the same thing to make sure they havent forgotten.
