I recently saw that people are saying that sci ships are horrible, and that escorts are the best. I hate how the escorts look, so I decided to get a cruiser. Which one should I get, a assault cruiser or star cruiser?

Cruisers have lousy turn rates, and one of the better Science Captain abilities, Subnucleonic Beam, has a limited firing arc. And since it's primary function is to strip buffs and increase recharges it's usually best used just after an enemy triggers it's best abilities... meaning it's better to not use it as an alpha on your approach, then due to poor turning it's going to be tougher to land it.

Sure, you could Aux2Damp to try and solve that problem, but that puts one of your nicest hull heals, Aux2Sif, on cooldown. You could also go Evasive to try and deal with it... but then your Evasive is in cooldown should you happen to need it.

Generally that's why I'd rather pair Science Captains with Science Vessels or Escorts. If you hate the look of the standard Escorts have you considered the Advanced variety...? They look rather Cruiser-y. The MVAM ship would be especially effective. The Armitage is a good option too, and is rather attractive and Cruiser-esque.

Well, the Exelsior, Galor, and D'Kora have respectable turnrates and there are advantages to getting the Dreadnought's turnrate up.

It's not perfectly optimum...

But slap those Eng-y slots full of RCS consoles, slot a Temporal Lobi Crit/turnrate console in a Tac slot, and pass up the Borg engine for a Fleet Turnx3 engine or maybe a Jem'Hadar set and you have a cruiser that trades in tank-iness to be suitable for science. You can do that without sacrificing anything too important for a science build.

Do all of that and you can probably out-turn most escorts if the starting base turnrate on the cruiser is 9 or higher.
