# 1 Aegis & Reman Set Updates!
10-08-2012, 10:22 PM
I don't know where I should be posting this. Ever since MACO, Omega Force and Honor Guard item sets got released Aegis got thrown under the space bus. I would like to make an appeal to the devs and anyone else out there. Please update Aegis. It truly needs some love right about now.

I and tons of other players had to work so hard to either craft or find someone in our fleet that has the crafting skill to help us make Aegis. It's a great set, but needs an update.

What I am suggesting is that, since this set is shared by both KDF and Starfleet maybe the devs can add an additional special set ability. I believe this is more than fair. The devs and pick out the additional set ability. The same goes for the Reman set as well. So far we have the following in game:

Breen Absolute Zero = Breen Energy Dissipator
JemHadar = Antiproton Sweep
Omega Force = Gravitic Anchor
MACO = Heavy Graviton Beam
Honor Guard = Mask Energy Field
Assimilated Borg Technology = Assimilated Tractor Beam

All of these effects are amazing in their own right. However, for some reason Aegis and Reman sets got left out of the skill party. Devs please fix this! Only you can make it right.

I'll add my voice to this argument as well.

The Aegis set, is a nice set for those who do not do STFs and are solo players.

The set really does need some updating... either a new power through crafting, DOff assignments or maybe the upcoming Reputation system, or by buffing the abilities a LITTLE bit.

Let the engines grant a small bonus to warp speed in Sector space, the shields are nice, and so is the deflector.

I haven't seem the stats for the Reman set in a long time, not since they made it that you have to do the Vault Event to get data logs to get the engines and deflector.

But, the Aegis seems to be lacking a little with the changing times. With all the new sets being introduced, it kind of has fallen by the wayside and been ignored.

I know there are those out there that have stated in other posts that it shouldn't getting anything because it is craftable. I'm not a MMO expert or veteran, STO is my first MMO, and the reason I'm playing is because it is Star Trek themed.

But, there should be a way for us solo players to get a little bit of an upgrade on this set, as it is one, if not the only set we can get.

I know, I know, it is available on the Exchange for the right amount of ECs, so make it bind so it can't be put up on the Exchange, I don't mind. I have two toons that both crafted it from the ground up. Neither of them bought it. I grinded the dilithium to get the unreplicated materials, and grinded the Zenas Expanse to get yellow/orange anamolies for it.

Now, I have another toon, that is about 400 crafting points away from being able to craft the set.

Just a little something... please.

I Love the Reman set but it does suffer from having the lack of a "complete kit power" even with out one though when upgraded it could easily stand on parr with the MACO, Omega and KHG sets, I have never used or seen an Aegis set but they seem to be some what of a whispered legend. (for the record I'm not saying that i think they don't exist i know you get them via crafting).
Also i agree the Jem set needs a way to get mk XII , an event like the vault could be a good way to do this one where you have to use your shuttle to fight threw the wormhole to clear out some Alpha/ True way Jem forces.
I think 60 data's to get XII V.rare is abit much considering 4 is about the max you can get an hour and half the time people mess up the event.

Here's the thing:

All of the sets you listed include some sort offensive-type set bonus. The Aegis is really one of the only in-game sets that includes a ship-wide, self-only set bonus (the 3/3 resistance buff). The entire concept behind Aegis was that it was designed to defend against Borg threats, and even by the name (for those that don't know, Aegis means "shield"), it should carry a defensive bonus of some kind.

With all of that said, I agree, Aegis needs a buff to become more in-line with the existing items sets out there. Right now it's the defensive equivalent of the Borg Retro set (or at least, pretty close), and I would think for the materials/EC required to craft, it should get a boost. Perhaps include the 3/3 set bonus for damage resistance, but also include a chance for a damage buff for self/party, improve the shield stats, include a subtranswarp engine component, etc.

tl;dr - buff Aegis.

This thread title got me pretty excited because I thought the Reman set was getting an update. Sadly, not the case yet.

In another forgotten thread
I made the case that the Reman 3pc is actually useless.

New procs don't refresh the stack, so the maximum number of maintainable stacks is actually 4. More importantly, this means that to get all 5 stacks you have to get it to proc 5 times in 15 seconds, instead of once every 15 seconds to build and maintain the stack.

Now why is the stack life important? Because the stack adds to your maximum shield points, stop, take a breath, yes the design is that stupid, it gives you empty max sp only, raising the ceiling on what you could have if you heal into it. I know it hurts to think that somebody was dumb enough to design something like this. Let's say that against all odds this bad boy procs enough to get 5 stacks, wohooo!, +25% shield capacity, let's throw a heal and have some beefy shields! But wait, the procs wore off because they don't refresh! The beefy shields are gone and even if it procs again a second later it will only give you back the empty raised ceiling on your capacity.

tl;dr Fix Reman.

The problem isnt that the Aegis set and others are too weak. Its that the STF sets are too good.

In a game where the quality of gear is dependant on how many modifiers it gets on the basic white version, items like the STF gear that have special, not found anywhere else, bonuses are very powerful.

If you try to quantify the bonuses on any given STF shield, MACO for example, its effectivly a Covariant Mk XII shield with 3 cap modifiers, 1 reg modifier, 1 Plasma resist modifier (so thats already 2 levels of quality over every other purple shield in game) then it still gets +10 resists to everything (call that another 1 bonus) and the bonus power settings proc.

So all in all you could call that 7 bonuses. Every non STF purple item in the game has only 3 bonuses.

MACO shield isnt the only one with stuff like this. All STF shields have this problem. Engines and Deflectors tend to follow more closely, getting maybe 4 bonuses.

See the problem isnt the others being underpowered. The problem is STF equipment is unbalanced with the rest of the game. Really the STF shields need their capacity and regen rates nerfed heavily so that there is a real choice when it comes to gear at endgame.

There is a power bonus with the set items so you could call it an offensive bonus, as well there's the reactive shielding thats definitely a defensive bonus.

Would I like the set buffed, SURE. Am I dissatisfied with it currently, NO FREEKIN WAY !

On the other hand, the REMAN set is complete garbage at any level.

I remember when we had to go through hoops to get the Aegis set, and then it was immediately outdated by the Borg set. I loved the Aegis defensive and turn bonus, but other than that, its not all that worth it. I think the set is somewhere in a cargo bay, next to the Gal-X cloak and plasma weapons....

Persistent buggers, heh? No common sense, but a lot of persistence.

If anything, it's MACO/Omega/KHG that need a buff, not walmartaegis.
