So when quite a few of the bases reach Tier 5 and the rest have long since ground to a halt Cryptic should just sell them in the C-store.

They could be sold modular - so piece by piece for each or the tiers sections for people who don't have all the money up front or you could by a whole tier for a discounted price.

Would certainly help out a lot of people who are not in big fleets or just don't have the time to grind and Cryptic will continue to make money on them. Because at this point they are certainly slowing down.

Now don't come on here and flame me saying Cryptic would never do this - you know they could.

It would certainly make a lot of the gated content easier to get.

And the money could go to long-term game improvements.

Win-Win situation.

While not this idea, I did think that Cryptic could add in "Special" starbases like K-7s, whatever 375 was called, Orbital Habitats and Klingon Defense Stations (Possibly Nors?) as rewards beyond T5.

So inhumane superweapons, mass murder, and canon nonsense is okay, but speedos are too much for some people.

That's a possiblity too - but what about all the people who would rather just pay to get the base rather than grind? They could grind away at work then use that time to pay up front for the Starbase.

Of course Cryptic should wait until several fleets have hit Tier 5 - which they probably would.

Like I told someone else, not a good idea. That is a game mechanic, i.e. it's part of the game. I really must stress that word, because LTS is a service not a mechanic. Don't confuse the two.

I could see this, but:
1. Selling [Starbase: Tier 1, 2, 3, etc] from the C-Store would mean 1 person only would have to foot the bill, which would work for those single players that want a personal starbase and have the money. This method might be incredibly expensive for one player thou.

2. An Upgrade Project that uses contributed [Starbase Modules] purchased from the C-Store that uprade the Base Tier, thus allowing multple players to contribute to the progress, but this could be as troublesome as the projects that require exotic requirements (ie Dosi Rotgut) if the fleet Leaders intent wasn't well expressed to their fleet before hand.

3. Similar to 2, but a Special project that works similar to regular projects (1000xp) but require the [Starbase Module] as it's requirement, thus making it optional and "out of the way" of regular and upgrade projects.
There could be multiple versions of this project:
3x modules - 1000xp to Mil,Sci and Eng
5x modules - 5000xp to Mil OR Sci OR Eng
etc

Options 2 & 3, fit the PWE "Buy it or Grind it" method well especially if the SB Modules were tradeable like the ship modules are now.

I like the ideas in this especially being able to make the starbase a certain style (I want mine to be the old (original) ESD lol)

You make some excellent points - especially for KDF starbases where there want to advance but are having trouble with getting marks or players to be around for the grind.

Many people might want to pay to by-pass the grind. This pay to build starbase is not too far from what is there now - you can already buy large amounts of Zen with Real money and convert it to dilth and contribute to the base.

This would just make it more tidy and modular.

It would also mean flashing down the toilet a lot of things and be called "P2W".

At least some MMO with housing do offer decorations, I dont personally know any that offer Guild Housing decorations but I think this is the underlying issue, the current system is designed as a massive sink that only massive fleets can achieve on continued progress, other fleets will reach Tier 3 and struggle from that point on and we already seen how Cryptic handled decorations ... 200,000 Dilithium projects.

As it stands the name of the game is P2G.

They could just sell commodities used.

But my preference for its simplicity is massive fleet XP for modules + dilithium.

Worst case, if a fleet leader sets that project and bails, you CAN earn those.

Why is it not a good idea? It is exactly like the LTS situation - after a certain period when many fleets reach tier 5 and most others have ground to a halt - what will be the down-side of selling the componets in the C-store?

Will those that put all the work into the bases dump them and quit the game in protest? I doubt it. Just like the upset LTS - what are they going to do - cancel their LTS? no

But in the Case of the Starbase there is even less they can do about Cryptic selling them as modules - they can stomp their feet and cry - but they won't abandon the base they built up.

So are you saying Cryptic can't do this because it's a so-called "mechanic"?
