# 1 Buying ships with Zen

Why does it feel like when you spend zen on ships that these ships aren't any more powerful than the normal ones? If something is going to cost large amounts of dilithium or cost a minimal of about 20 bucks it should be more powerful than common ships.

As far as weapons go, certain ones should be more powerful than others. I think tri-cobalts dmg needs to be switched with transphasics. But like everything, it just falls on deaf ears. Having an opinion and saying your peace does help....

Because if we start making Zen Ships significantly more powerful than free ships, any remaining balance left in this game would evaporate like a rave on Vulcan. As I have said many times before SHIPS ARE JUST TEMPLATES!!! You still need to build them to their strengths and to their captain, outfit them properly, and then fly the damn thing with some common sense.

Also, if you make the best ships in the game something you have to purchase, you will drive off a significant portion of the player base that cannot afford $20 for a piece of fiction. Congratulations! Star Trek Online was defeated by Pay-To-Win Policies!

If you take an Odyssey and try to fly it like an escort, you are going to fail... horrifically. However, if you take the same ship, outfit it with Polaron beam arrays, lots of heals, and then start to boardside and tank alot of the damage, than you have a kickass ship that will keep swinging throughout a fight.

And again, no "one" weapon should rule them all, as it would make the game question on why having the other weapons in the first place. Sure, some weapons do more damage, but at a tradeoff of having longer cooldowns, using more energy, having an narrower firing arc, or only being equipable on the smallest, most fragile ships. This is Balance. Everything is viable in combat. However, some choices are better than others. Tetryon beams are great for supporting Science vessels, however may not be the best choice for a DPS escort as you lose out on the proc as soon as the shields drop. You can put a gravity well on a MVAE, but considering the hull on that, you might be better off with another heal, like transfer shield strength.

In order to have a proper MMO, Every weapon and every class has to be able to do well in one thing at the sacrifice of another.
