Could it be that Science power damage is nerfed into near oblivion due to "unintended" tactical captain power combination effects?
Could it be that Science ships already only have a 3/3 Admiral level loadout?
Could it be that the game is a DPS race and Science Ship Captains, already down the above two points, are looking for a sliver of extra DPS to keep up?
Could it be that Sci's are just looking for the same "set and forget" power configurations that escorts and cruisers enjoy - all the tactical abilities "benefit" from high weapons power, while sciences need to switch from weapons to aux in order to boost their powers to "effective" levels (or run gimped DPS from the get-go)...
I heard someone ask about fully aux-loaded Vesta, GW III, CSV I & Aux battery. How is this different than MVAE, Pile of Tactical Buffs (APA, APB, FOMM, GDF, CSV III, EPtW, TT, etc.) GW I, and Aux battery? Other than the fact that it's not an escort putting out the volume of fire/damage, and even then the Tac in MVAE will do more than Sci in Vesta...
Look. I'd much rather be able to pick my aux DHC type (why am I stuck with phaser-proc to get this aux-benefit, when I'd much rather have Polaron proc) than have an aux turret. Also, I will admit that I love the Vesta in a Tholian action, I can let their disruption torps bounce off my shields, and retain some firepower/movement with my aux DHCs & an [aux] modded impulse engine. However, the inverse is also somewhat true, if I get hit by, say, target subsystems: Aux, I currently retain the full use of my non-aux tail weapons, but running a fully aux-based loadout means that aux damage will affect my entire ship and TSS:Aux will practically cripple me if I don't have a restoration method available.
In light of the "frequent" science complaints, and the soon-to-be-released "escort cruiser" (aka Breen Winter Event Ship), it seems that the quiet goal of STO's balance department is to make everyone escorts rather than enhance the abilities of the other classes as capable as escorts "in their own way". If this is the case, then why not make the Vesta 100% an aux-escort, instead of this half-arsed aux-front weapons-tail that we have now?
As the OP said, just as spiral waves are only unlocked for Galor owners, these aux-turrets would only be unlocked for Vesta owners. Thusly mitigating the fear that these aux-weapons will proliferate outside the "P2W group" that drops $20 on a Vesta-variant...
This makes so much sense. The Sci ships are already among the weakest, having a decent DPS in addition to crowd control would only make science ships within the same tier as escorts.
Ah , the Vesta, flavor of the month. I get the impression that it's designed to be a "jack of all trades" ship. It's a sci! It's an escort! It's a carrier! Lots of capabilities, but not doing any one thing exceptionally well. Except get blown up a lot in Ker'rat. They seem to do that wonderfully.
good thing I have not run into you in Kerrat... while it might be fun for you to try and pop my vesta you are going to need help doing it.... and as I remember Kerrat is mostly gank squads and spawn camping anyway

When the Vesta stats come out on the blog I was one of the people that pointed out the problems with the Aux DHCs , it seems those argument had some weight as they were restricted to the Vesta.
This is asking the issue that is limited to the Vesta would now run rampart, the creation of a all Aux ship is contrary to how ships are balanced over the power levels and how the Vesta is keep in check by not having enough power.
Its already pushing the Vesta can mount DHCs being the 3rd Non-Escort that is able to do so (the others being the Galaxy-X and the Atrox) but also that it can mount a special DHC that draws power from Aux but now being a ship that could simply IGNORE Weapons power level?
You want to fly a escort, go fly a escort ... the Vesta is a science ship and what you want is not "synergies" but rather A OVERPOWERED SHIP!
Overpowered? Really? where do you get that from please do tell
Look. I'd much rather be able to pick my aux DHC type (why am I stuck with phaser-proc to get this aux-benefit, when I'd much rather have Polaron proc) than have an aux turret.
Here's an idea: Make a console available (mountable on the Vesta only and its possible Fleet version if one ever gets made) that lets all energy weapons draw from AUX power. Then you can choose your weapons and energy type, but have to sacrifice a console slot. (and with the 3 other Vesta-specific consoles mounted, you're already cramped for console slots as it is). Of course, those people who are saying that adding AUX turrets is overpowered would claim that this is even MORE overpowered . . .
How many Starfleet Engineers does it take to exchange an Anti-positronic Photon Emitter?
You really don't need Aux Turrets and the Vesta would be OP with them - as it is, if you min/max your build you can simultaneously run high Aux and high Weapons at the expense of Shields and Engine power.
If the Feds do get the Plasmonic Leech in the next lockbox, that's only going to make the Vesta even more formidable and it's already in the top tier of ships as it is.
I love my Vesta. Its fantastic. If there were aux turrets for it I would cirtainly use them. That said. NO. NO AUX Turrets. If you want to dps in it use energy syphon.
No, we don't need more AUX weapons for the Vesta. I am a Vesta owner, and yes it would be cool IF they were available. But it's over the top in this case, almost OP.
Have 1 or 2 items that are unique in their power requirements is a nice bonus. After the AUX Vesta cannons, the Experimental Romulan Plasma Array is great example. It doesn't drain power due to built in power supplies.
I own a Vesta and think this is a bad idea. The Vesta has its advantage, being able to draw weapons power from to sources. This allows less weapons drain. I take aggro from a lot of escort, except the really well built one, all thie time. I believe it is because my weapons draw from two sources, with less drop in power this allows the weapons to do more damage. Where I make up the difference against most escort is running 125 in aux, allows you to do more damage with gravity wells, more time against energy syphon, and and also it effect you damage resistance from some of a science captains abilities, why would you want to take the damage away from your GW? I also love healing 1400 hp Per second HE. I free with some of the other if you want them you can have them, but I want use them.
