Grinding is sane until it becomes a chore you hate doing.

Star Trek Online is a video game. It's there to entertain you. If you're not happy with a certain aspect, don't play that aspect.

Every human action is based upon pleasure. However, the higher levels of pleasure require sacrifice to achieve. Going to university to get a job that pays well and is life fulfilling is a higher level of pleasure than getting drunk and doing other stupid things that give immediate pleasure, but a lower form of pleasure. Grind works on this philosophy. Would spending hours of time in getting this elite item so you can show it off be worth sacrificing your time? If the pleasure you gain from getting the elite item is not worth the sacrifices made to get it, then it is not worth grinding for.
