Is you could load a very balanced ship... and have enough alpha to get the job done and enough support skills to fly bop teams. (like Mancom mentioned the QEW/RZR bop team attacks) That frankly has no chance in working against an organized team anymore.
Those balanced builds still do well against the average fed pug.. but that really isn't saying much is it.
Now in order to get those big alpha kills... you really do end up loading Like Thissler or Minimax. I have a few burst bops that are still fun to play... but they really don't work in a team anymore.
I know we can argue that sure you just need to support your strike guys... but lets get real about it... there going to die A LOT in areal match. Before all the field gen tac team junk... those ships where able to load hazards and TSSs... and not in general die 80% of the time on a failed run. I remember being able to get away as a team through bop cross healing. In fact I used to send out a document to new RZR flyers detailing how to put together a porper hybrid bop... I find the current game meta a heck of a lot more boring myself.
When the messenger comes to appropriate your profits ... kill the messenger.
i get several unassisted out of no were 1 shots a day with 3 cannons and THY2. i consider a 1 shot a single fireing cycle from all your weapons causing the death of an at least somewhat healthy target.
sometimes its not enough to insta pop everyone, but caught flat footed sci ships don't stand a chance. its ideal on escorts that cant turn and dogfight well, that arent going to have as much on target up time. any amount of time you get to shoot your target, you better make the most use out of it. with just 4 cannons, are you sure you can kill reliably pounding away with that? can you even keep those guns pointed reliably? its not always enough i find, without some kind of closer too.
dogfights were im at a turning disadvantage can end pretty quickly if that pass i successfully pull of a cannon and torp delivery. ive out dueled bugs in a clunky vet ship because they brought 4 cannons, and even in that thing i could avoid them well enough. then i just need a single DHC fireing cycle, and torp launch and they are dead. 4 cannons cant do that.
