Known Issue Since The Dawn Of Days... Why Is It An Issue Now?

STAR TREK ONLINE has been installed on my computer since 2010... and never had an issue. My system can handle 99% of all the high end graphically intense games out there. Not once did I need to overclock my system. I take my computer to Lan parties all the time and never ever complained about needing to upgrade!

I thought maybe it was a virus or something... because as of 12:30a 1-1-13 my system NOW goes into Power Save mode and shuts itself completely down. Happy New Years to me right?! So I enter low and off to all possible settings and it still does it. What suggestions might you have for this fix?

My Computer

Intel Core2 Duo CPU 2.93GHz
4GB DDR3-1600 RAM Corsair
HHD 1TB Sata
XFX ATI Radeon HD 4890
GIGABYTE UD3L Motherboard
24x DVD+-RW recorder
TX750W Corsair
Cooler Master Scout Case
Windows7 Home 64-bit

# 54 Black Screen and Crash

Sometimes it really bothers me to hear software people go on and on about it's got to be a problem with your hardware. I have over 25 years in the computer service industry as a network administrator and work with all types of systems. I myself am having the same problem that many many others are with the random black screen lockup and crash. There is no rhyme or reason as to when it will happen but the screen goes black then the sound stutters and then all you can do is hard reboot.

Keep in mind my system is a brand new that I built myself and is about two months old. I was playing fine until around the 18th - 20th of May when I got a patch, since then I'm unable to play on my nice new desktop and had to move over to my notebook.

Thank goodness I have a backup computer but most people don't and I sure would like to get back to playing on my nice new Desktop. Stop blaming everyone's hardware and take a serious look at this issue. And I disagree with your statement that your software won't or can't crash hardware, that's a pretty arrogant stance to take when we all know that improper programming especially dealing with video can and will crash you!

I will submit a ticket with all my system details but for the public here's what I'm running and everything passes all the tests I can toss at it!

My notebook which is allowing me to play without the issue an I5 with 8gigs Ram and has a Nvidia graphics chipset as well, so far the game is running fine there. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Reading over the forum it seems to me that way to many people are having this issue for it not to warrant a hard look at! I think its way more people having it then are reporting it as well.
