The Bort is a dreadnought-style ship, IMHO; it is designed for maximum forward firepower, at the expense of turning speed or versatility (and, to an extent, durability, although it can kill things quickly enough that it often doesn't need any real tank); it needs to keep its distance when smaller enemies are around, and only pull in closer against large, cumbersome targets (or stationary ones). If you get the set, with the Disruptor Autocannon, it is even moreso.

So, while your line of thought is comparing it to the Odyssey, my line of thought is comparing it to the Federation's Galaxy-X Dreadnought. And this, IMHO, is a better dreadnought than that one.

Build suggestion: (the 5-tac version)

Fore: 4 x Mk XII Disruptor Dual Heavy Cannons
Rear: 4 x Mk XII Disruptor Turret

Shield/Engine/Deflector: Whatever you want, but get something durable
Devices: Weapon batteries (to recover from the Disruptor Autocannon's power drain), the device you get from the Devidian series, and whatever else you want

Engineering Consoles: 1 x EPS Flow Regulator, 1 x Neutronium, 1 x Tachyokinetic Converter, 1 x Borg console
Science Console: Disruptor Autocannon console
Tactical Consoles: 5 x Disruptor Induction Coil Mk XII

Use:
You're essentially a siege engine. Keep your distance from the fast-movers, and hit the big stuff while the rest of your team deals with the little ones. Save your autocannon for the times you need to solo cubes, or when you're short on time and need to finish off a large target quickly (like a gate or transformer). The quality of your tactical consoles is important, because they buff all your cannons and turrets as well as your Disruptor Autocannon. Using a tactical officer with this ship would probably be best, as you can pop all your tactical buffs right before you trigger the autocannon; I've only seen someone do this once, but the guy scrapped a Borg cube in record time, before I could even get there.

Anyway...I hope this helps; I've only flown the free version that isn't as good as yours, but I've seen them in action enough to know that they're extremely effective in STF's and other time-limited events, especially when they're set up just right (beams probably work just fine for normal solo PVE content, but bringing a beam Bortie to an Elite STF is wasted potential, IMHO).

The bortasqu is VERY good in Borg STFs because the targets don't move much. But it's poor in nearly every other situation, and it's not better in Borg STFs than other (often free) ships.

So... it's not useless for $25, but there are a lot better uses of your money (Guramba, for example).

When I was actively using my bortasqu, I used to have two sets of weapons -- a set of cannons/turrets for STFs, and then beams for other content (such as pvp).

If you're willing to swap stuff around depending on mission, that will leverage your abilities.

A point I'd like to make:

Disruptor Autocannon, if firing only that, doesn't drain weapon power. If you are firing other stuff, it's treated like a normal weapon in that it will drain 10 weapon power because of that. But if by itself, doesn't drain at thing.

In other words, it doesn't follow the same thing as the Phaser Lance, the Lotus attacks, etc.

The bortasqu is a beast beams for pvp and cannons for stf

Don't give up on it just because its a tad slow learn to work around that stfs are scripted which means 90percent of the time all the ships will move the same way and follow the same route

In pvp strap some beams on or some single cannons

This is the only 5 tac console ship we get therefore its no waste of money just needs practice
----=====This is my opinion you don't have to listen and no one else has to read them these "OPINIONS" are based on my exploits and my learning other people will have their opinions and that's fine just don't knock my way of doing things thanks=====----

Hi age!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPZOkFhi91E

I uploaded the Elite video. I died a couple times too. And if you watch you can see I'm pretty awful, even about activating the abilities that I PLANNED ahead of time to use. Ok so it was one of the first times I was in Elite but still.

Guess I need practice!!

Thanks.

OK.I went out and got another oe this time the tactical version with some cannons,2 beams.q torps and mines.I did it up sort of like your first one with 2 netronium alloys and 2 sifs seems to work better. It is just different than my Vorchas which move faster as well as my Fed Tacs ecorts.

You see? What a simple, yet intelligent & articulate description of the Bortaqu' Hand clap to you Aethon.

Frankly, instead of buying a ship first because you think it looks cool or w/e the reason may be, why did you not do your homework on it before spending the zen? There is STOwiki; you could've posted on the forums asking questions on the ship before buying it, and also asking people, friends, fleetmates in the game itself. All can provide you with valuable info before committing to buy something.

Honestly, buying a ship and then posting on the forums, 'bashing' it up, won't take away the fact that you probably make a mistake and jumped the gun too soon on a ship you had no clue about. This is poor judgment on your part, guess you'll have to live with it.

The Bortaqu' is exactly as Aethon describes it, I couldn't say it better myself. Using his example cannon build, stay at maximum weapons range and send a barrage of hurt from a safe distance. I would only close on a target if I'm confident that I will kill it before it lurks out of my 45 degree arc.

Also note that this ship is capable of withstanding a huge amount of damage, with the exception of huge spike damage hitting you more than once very quickly. Aside from this, with the correct Engineering boff abilities you should be able to resist and heal, and enough so just in case to facilate an escape with evasive maneuvers, reposition at max range and repeat.

I have tactical toons on both fed and KDF side, I pilot escorts, cruisers, and carriers very well, and I see no exception here with this magnificent ship.

I suggest keep up your practicing. It's the only way you'll get better. With every victory you'll yield the rewards and with every defeat a new lesson learned.

Cheers

I can not say if they are even though I bought them myself. I always felt that for a unique weapon they should hit harder than DHCs, which I do not feel they do.

On that note I feel the Disruptor Autocannons should hit even harder than Quads.
