Then focus fire from all 5 of the other players. Then some comment about getting pwoned. So is this fun? No. When I PVP with my friends its dog fighting and exciting and an all around good time. But being disabled with no ability to move or fight back or heal for the entire match is why the public PUG matches are just no fun and not worth even going into anymore.
There are still a lot of PUG on PUG matches, and they can be a lot of fun. If you run into a premade, yeah, you're screwed. But not every match is gonna be against premades.

I do notice that PUG vs. PUG matches tend to be a lot more about the gear. It's because those very often end up as basically a bunch of 1-1 fights. That's where things like the bug ships of fleet shields make a huge difference -- if you're coming in with a vanilla ship without much rep grinding, you can still do well on a team that is working as a team and supporting one another. But if it's PUG vs. PUG, the guy with the best gear is gonna win.

The silly thing about the gear difference is that it's not every piece of better gear that causes the big swings like that. If an opponent had a bunch of Acc x3 cannons while you're using the quest rewards you got from Past Imperfect, you can still come on top. But if he's in a Bug or has fleet shields while you're in a patrol escort with quest reward shields, you aren't going to win no matter much. Most gear in the game is a minor improvement, but certain things are huge.

PvP was almost a joke when I left, with Pre-mades mercilessly stomping pugs, flinging every insult along the way. Console spam was the norm and supposedly expected gameplay. If you weren't flying an escort, you were a zombie-build of some sort.

Has the situation improved, or is it still the same festering pit of hate it was?
It is. There are new consoles/lockbox ships ever few months, plus consoles/C-Store ships in meantime. Feds got Klinkcheese, Klinks got Fed one. There is also reputation and all the grind that needed from S7.

PvP is for people who love to grind. No, who find a masochistic joy in grind. LOOOOOTS of grind.

No... PvP queues is good for earning dilithium - when being semi afk. Just take dilithium missions for PvP, enter to match and make sure that your side is losing quickly. Space assault & capture missions are easier - you absolutely don't need to do anything.

I should have expected a response like this from the PvP forums.

After reading the entire thread, and a few matches, it is really safe to say that the attitude of those on the PvP side of the game truly hasn't changed for the better in at least 2 years.

While the boot camp could ideally help a lot of people, I'm not sure how well it can truly help against the super-escort players who tank better than a zombie cruiser and have the maneuverability of a bird-of-prey on steroids.

I'll probably stay out of pvp for the majority of my time. I don't care to spend my time hearing about how my maternal lineage accounts for my game play.

Outside of all the balancing issues, I still wish Cap and Hold games wouldn't take 1 hour+ to play. I wouldn't mind a time limit on that. Or that potentially kills would take away from your resource pool.

My line wasn't meant to you. But to the troll three post above (from oddlove), that said, pvp is only good to afk-farm dilithium.

Any help is better than none. Perhaps with flying alongside those "super-escorts" or zombie cruisers or what-not, decent players such as myself can learn the ropes to really maximizing potential from our ships.

And I agree, Capture and Hold takes way too long.

How I wish flying near/with them would help. The zombie-cruiser not so much. I can get pretty close to that, or at least survive long enough for them to give up.

The "super-escort" build seems to require some sort of super-secret handshake or club membership to get the details on. Without fail, anytime I pm one of them asking for the ship build or advice on how to fly like that, I am met with rude response containing an insult of some variety. I've tried watching them fight others, watching and writing down their buffs as they appear, but something never seems to add up. I can get those same buffs on my escort, but it is still goes boom quickly.

I'll figure it out one day, but it is difficult to see such a very wide gap in skills for PvP. The current setup is highly discriminatory against new players.

If this game had a larger player-base, it would be nice for some sort of tier/rating attached to your character/account based on kills/deaths/etc..
