Whoa, 2 Million accounts, really? Is that showing ALL accounts, or does it snip out spammer accounts that have been banned? And does it reflect on active accounts, or does it include inactive ones as well?

Yep, I was just about to post that I was disappointed that this exclusive reveal really didn't reveal anything new or exclusive except 2 seconds of Tasha Yar speaking. Then I saw the last 2 seconds. Looks like it's back to the Romulan front for us.

I'm not sure there are 2 million accounts, as it actually says 2 million "captains". I'd say I own four or five of those, so the number of players is quite a bit lower than that - maybe somewhere in the range of 200,000 - 400,000? Just a guess, of course.

Can't wait to meet Tasha Yar, though! Way to go, Cryptic!

You have to take averages into account: There are 10 Million ships in service, but only 2 million captains, an average of 5 ships per captain. I know I have around 20+ ships on my main (and about 5ish on my other 2 characters), so there must be a fair few people with just 1 or 2 to offset me.

So even if it's counting characters per account, there's still going to be a lot of accounts that have just 1 or 2 characters.
