Okay, I guess that this is admittedly a variation on the classic 'favorite ship' theme, but nonetheless.
I completed the Anniversary FE a few days ago - firstly with my primary toon (sci) and then with my Tac toon. Took the Ambassador out for a spin with both.
Now don't get me wrong, I love the Ambassador - the Dev's have done a great job on it and she's a pretty effective ship. My tac is still using it.
But my (primary) sci... I found myself back at the ESD shipyard re-selecting my Fleet Rhode Island. I can't really explain it, but no matter what ship I obtain for my sci toon (and tihs includes the fact that I won a Wells class early in the temporal lockbox run), if I am using anothe ship I always pine for my (Fleet) Rhode Island.
So, to everyone else, what is the ship that you find yourself unwilling to mothball for any extended period of time?
D'kora, with a close second being the steamrunner. I have a bug ship, , Mobius, Wells, and a lot of Fleet ships. For me the D'kora just does everything very well, it's tough with decent firepower, has the exchange and mail onboard and looks cool (i think at least). I wouldn't pvp with it, but I know some do. And it's not that expensive compared to a lot of lockbox ships.
Although now, it's been replaced with a Fleet Galaxy, which I love even more, but the costume is the same.
I have always liked the Galaxy class, but what bothers me is the neck. So when they brought out the Venture variant, I had to have it. So basically the Horizon is a Galaxy/Venture hybrid. The Venture neck gives it a sleeker profile, and a more organic appearance from the rear.
Even with Emergency Power to Weapons cycled, it takes an age to blow up anything, and she turns like a cow with a gammy leg in a field of treacle, but I just love the lines.
I wanted to leave it for an Odyssey, but I can't bear the phasers firing out the nacelle tips, it just looks wrong, and the Oddy bridge is too spartan.
While I like a lot of ships, I don't like flipping around a lot, so most of my characters only have one ship and for that character, that's their favorite.
But for a favorite, I'm going with B'rel, which I will train up another character just to fly that one. Just because its a classic. Close second would be the D'kora, just because its handy and looks cool.
The one i realy cant mothball is my beloved Excelsior. I bought the C-Store Versions a long time ago and was very happy with both of them. Now i use the Fleet Excelsior and i love it.
its so nimble, so powerfull and gracefull.
To some it is an overdone, overrefitted old bucket. But for me it is THE Ship.
I occasionly switch to my Odesseys and the Steamrunner and sometimes the Armitage(in Akira Costume) but honestly , everytime im not using the Excelsior it somehow feels wrong.
I do collect Starships like crazy but the Excelsiors are where its at imho.
I don't have one that I favor most I don't think. My Fleet Defiant is my more or less permanent ESTF ship, and I don't see it getting unseated any time soon. For everything else, I had for a long time used my Advanced Escort as my main ship (with the MVAE console). Then I got the Chimera and flew that for a long while. Then dallied a bit with the Steamrunner and Akira (Armitage), then messed with the Chimera some more, and most recently loaded up the Steamrunner with Romulan weapons to try that stuff out. So I'm all over the place.
I can't seem to get my Klingon out of his Pegh'qu though. That hybrid of Raptor with battle cloak is just too good.
A hard one for me. I have always seemed to return to my Excelsior, but the Galaxy is a ship I simply admire the design of (the Excelsior has one or two bad visual angles, while the Galaxy seems to have none I dislike). However, alongside both of these is my Mirror Star Cruiser, which I find enjoyable to fly as the 'ship without a home' for its background.
So, I like the Excelsior's performance, the Galaxy's design, and the Mirror Star Cruiser's background/hull design. It's a tough call, as none of the three are completely what I want (a Mirror Galaxy class with Advanced Transwarp Drive and able to use Saucer Seperation would settle it nicely ). If I had to pick one, I'd probably go with the Excelsior, but only because it's the ship that fits my BOFFs best.
I'm like malkarris--each character is intended for a single endgame-level ship. I might upgrade as I level up, but only one Endgame Ship per character.
My Main's ship is a Fleet Tac Escort Retrofit, with the Sao Paulo skin. And to be honest, the Sao Paulo is my favorite ship from STO.
