You know I was always thinking, something is missing when I fire a torpedo of two at the bad guys. And this is what I remembered:

Mainly the torpedoes explode in the general area your firing in. Now don't get me wrong, but this option would help when your fighting guys with cloaked ships. it would force them out of hiding if they are close to your position.

I don't know about anout one else, but I feel this can only help make the game better. Last I checked you can't fire your weapons without a target, this option lets you at least fire your torpedoes into an area then BOOM!

What do you guys think, is this need or not?

hehe it looked like torpedeos to me, I am sure there are other examples of what I am talking about. Every Picard used a Torpedo Spread from time to time.

I have to say that I have always wanted to be able to fire the ships weapons without a target, like we can do on ground now a days.

Would be very useful, as you said, against cloaked ships

I think the closest you're going to get to AoE damage is Tricobalt torpedos, but then it still needs a target to impact.

So we are all agree, this would be a nice bonus in STO right?

First. High yield Plasma Torpedo and tricobalt (modified or not) have splash damage.
Second. [Console - Universal - Nadeon Detonator] and *maybe* [Console - Universal - Ionized Gas Sensor] allow one torpedo to do splash damage.
Third. Torpedo Spread bridge officer ability is literately your torpedoes exploding *AROUND* (not impacting *ON*) one or more ships.

I should point out the Ionized Gas Sensor is intended for use against cloak ships (it just love to track one of them down). Combining it with a tricobalt torpedo will make cloaked ships hate you very much.

Or if your looking to fire on cloaked ships; buy the Nebula for the console

All good points, BUT..............You still need a targeted eneny to use those right? Just asking. If so then it's not the AOE I am looking for. I want the space shaking BOOM of torpedoes exploding in empty space, and if a cloak ship is there then it will do some damage to them.

This would probably work better as a power with a long cooldown, perhaps from the Reputation system, or as a console.
