There is a lot of detail I know about exactly what happened to the crew and what caused them to be there and how they returned--things said and discussed, that I chose not to include in this piece. I felt that to add that material would have detracted from what really should be the focus. I can explain things more if you like, here or by PM, but I felt it should not be in Alyosha's log proper.

But in this I hope readers will see two things...how deep Alyosha's connection to the world where he was raised really is, and above that, a tribute to those "heroes of ordinary life."

My entry is here. I confess to dealing with time travel the easy way.

I wanted my story to be tied to a historical event. I couldn't think of anything in NYC worth writing about (remember this is the Star Trek timeline so World War III has already happened), and I have a strong personal dislike of the New York Yankees, so I used a different American city.

Please don't be mad at me for killing off poor old Miles O'Brien.

Side note - copy/paste from Word, Notepad, and Wordpad all create the horrible question marks. I'm tempted to kill T'Panna just so that I don't have to replace the ? in her name everywhere. But I have big plans for her...

?!

9/11

Then again, that may be too touchy a subject to get into ...

There is PLENTY of things happening (that happened) in NYC considering the "real" past. Anything from tomorrow to the current time would be fiction. I'm still working on this one because of the at that fact.

Regardless, I enjoyed your entry superhombre777

superhombre777--Very interesting. I could see O'Brien dying in such a heroic way, though I was definitely sad to see him go and I hope they won't do that in STO any time soon. I'm curious what got the Prophets interested in the events surrounding O'Brien's death.

cmdrscarlet : I don't see any restriction on the challenge stating that it can't be their past but our future. Fiction it may be, but I think it would be doable.

Star Trek did that once with the fictional Bell Riots, on DS9. I don't think there'd be anything stopping you from doing something like that here, if you would rather not write about a real-life historical event.

And, after last time, I'm looking forward to yours. Do you need more persuading? I can do the Stella voice if I must: "Harcourt Fenton Mudd!"...

@gulberat - No doubt! I've done some research to see if I can link my characters to some real event. I keep thinking that I don't have to! So many things happen on a daily basis in a city that large that goes unnoticed by the press that anything I write may have actually happened in some capacity.

But then again ... why not write about writing about an event that didn't happen before or during *MY* lifetime, but that of say ... the generation after mine but before Kathryn's?! The only limits (I see) would be my imagination and anything after 2161 Starfleet (and the uutopia of Star Trek) exists.

HMMM!!
This, pretty much this exactly. One of the things most fun about time travel stories is linking them to famous events, yet i've been looking for something that catches my eye and nothing is standing out so far and google has been less than cooperative to what i'm looking for. Ive been looking more into things like forklore or myths and legends yet the only thing coming up is gators in sewers or pop culture stuff that's no help.

At this point i might just say "!@#$ it" and leave out tying it in to famous events.
