My one wish with the lance and javelin is to be able to switch out the energy types somehow. Kind of sucks being locked into phasers or disruptors only if you want to get the most out of the specials.
2 things that make the lance inferior to the javelin, that have nothing to do with the ability itself, but the ship they come with.
tactical console slots
high ranking attack powers
So basically the lance is an ability that comes with a ship that is in no shape or form suited to opperate it effectively like the guramba that is basically build around its weapon.
solution to give the lance more firepower can only be to redesign the whole ship. Boff layout, consoles, maybe a fleet version that mirrors the fleet assault cruiser.
personally i think both the dreadnought and the guramba shouldn't have their "speacial consoles" build in...give them a console only useable to that kind of ship, and introduce the fleet version at the same time.

We don't need a Fleet Galaxy-X - we need a functional Galaxy-X. It needs vastly improved turning, sensible cloaking (all cloaking "devices" should at worst be "battle" cloaks that take up a device-item slot and not a console slot), and a "phaser spinal lance" that doesn't only look good on the tooltip.
In the one episode you see the ship, what does the lance do? It doesn't diffuse on shields. It doesn't char the hull. It causes holes and explosions and fires rather quickly (every few seconds as opposed to every few minutes).
As for turning it "Fleet" - why aren't VA zen-store ships "Fleet" from the get-go? Why aren't zen-store ships scaled with level from the get-go (aside from the obvious "$$$" that is)?
As for Boff stations - stations and powers need an overhaul. I still don't see a purpose behind an ensign station on any ship once you hit Captain-tier given how the powers are distributed. (Especially where Cannons are concerned - what I am going to do, Aux2Bat + CRF2 or SV2 on this ship? Seriously?)
I shouldn't have to do more than what I have done with my builds to get any sort of kick from this weapon.
I couldn't agree more, especially when the weapon is supposed to be pretty powerful even without any assistance, when you're running with good gear it should at least do something better than half dropping one shield facing on a lvl 1 Negh'var, especially when a single torpedo or a couple of phaser strikes can destroy the entire ship.
I've temporarily dry-docked my Gal-X while I wait for my promised Saucer Seperation, but I never had any problems with the lance. Yeah, it misses sometimes and that is sad, but when it hits she hits plenty hard. Not quite as hard as my Gumby lance, but hard enough considering I'm not running an attack pattern and I'm down a tac console, and the fact that I can pop out of cloak and fire it with a 15% damage boost.\
The Gal-X is a fine ship, just that people expect too much from her. They want to go about one shotting Neg'Vars all match like in the show. It's not going to happen. They want her to move like an escort. It's not going to happen (unless we get saucer sep) She isn't an escort, she isn't a Klingon Battle Cruiser, she is a big cruiser capable of some high burst once in a while. She was never meant to be a DPS machine. She is a large tank/healer with a burst ability. If people would fly the ships as they were designed instead of wanting them to be other ship types they would be more happy with their ships in general. Seems like if every ship isn't some sort of escort or battle cruiser clone they are worthless... Only to those who are too short sighted.

It's not a question of whether or not the dreadnaught is a usable vessel, it's a question of whether or not it does what it claims to do and I would say that, mostly, it does. It should have a slightly better turn rate though and the phaser lance should do more damage than it does, with a shorter cool down. If you know of any way to make the phaser lance a viable weapon rather than just a tap on the shoulder for a level 1 Negh'var (no exaggeration) then please, share, because I'm seriously disappointed with the lameness, considering how much it cost.
