Until I get round to trying Bridge Commander, ST: Invasion is my favourite Star Trek game ever.

Just a heads up for those that may not know:

You can find BOTF on the web as an ISO file for install.

On another note:

Star Trek Armada was a pretty cool game as well. The second one I didn't enjoy but the original was pretty fun for the time period it was created.

I still play BOTF sometimes. I'd play it more if STO wasn't giving me my trek fix. I love the game, but the memory leak gets worse the longer you play. It would get to the point where I wouldn't play large galaxies because each click of the mouse would take like 15 seconds to respond to, which sucks when your managing dozens of systems and ships.

I found a couple of sweet mod sites a few years ago. One mod added ships from all the series (stock game was limited to what had appeared in TNG and DS9) and became available chronologically (NX then Connie etc.)

I'm not sure what the legal issues Cryptic would have since Microprose has been gone for a long time, but I guess I also don't know what features it had that you feel they're missing. The fleet and reputation systems a very reminiscent of the system resource management to me. The combat is way better in STO.

I suppose the diplomacy/espionage and territory control would be the only things I wish they'd had more of. They have some framework of diplomacy in game already, but some freatures have always been broken and some break as you advance (looks at First Contact missions at dies a little inside).

I used to play BOTF in MSN Gamezone a fair bit, There used to be ladders games there but I often played the same guy named St_Peter there and eventually away from there for a while until the game stopped working and we lost touch.

The game was so buggy, it was such a shame that Microprose went bust before they could sort it out and develop it further.

Anyway to the point of this post.....The game went abandonware many years ago so you can download it without any worry but it isn't easy to get that old game working on modern computers even when setting up a win98 virual drive for it.

I did find that the game has been getting a lot of attention though when I searched one time to see if there was any news of a BOTF 2. They have found their way around much of the code and repaired many of the bugs as well as adding extra to the game here.... http://www.armadafleetcommand.com/botf/

There are also some very good mods there if you fancy something different from the original game, the Ultimate Dominion Mod is excellent but the turns can get very long on the huge maps.

Ah, yes, I remember that site fondly.

It was always ridiculous seeing a new race join your alliance, only to realize that their homeworld either A: had no food, or B: had no industry...

MMOs aren't charities. Corporations are supposed to make a profit. It's what they do.

Is it just me or does anyone think that the T4 fleet starbase looks quite a lot like the upgraded colony hub from New Worlds?

I still have Elite Force 1, I really liked the storyline, shame they never did this in the actual series.
