As a Fed' player (and occasional KDF player), I have exactly no interest in increasing the amount of Fed' ships with cloaks (and even getting battle cloaks). Why you ask?

- It's really not in the flavor of Starfleet (the two exceptions are really exceptions and just plot devices anyways)

-I would much rather see Federation ships to increase their ability to detect cloaked ships and (heres the big one) to have Fed' players learn how to team up with Nebula players to better counter cloaking ships. One of the reason why KDF cloakcs work well is that Fed' players dont make attempts to team up and counter cloaking tactics.

-I actually like to know where my coffee maker is at all times. The KDF is still having problems keeping caffeine levels up while cloaked.

Yeah.

There's no real canon reason the feds shouldn't have cloaks -- it comes down to feel and gameplay, which are good enough for me.

I'd like to see, through expository dialogue or something, Cryptic at least make up a reason feds have been unable to mass produce cloaks. Writing around 'canon' issues is a fine Star Trek tradition that should be carried on.

Mounting the cloak console on the Fleet Defiant should enhance the cloaking effect somehow. Make it harder to break, make it a battle cloak, something.

Why? Because I say so.

[QUOTE/]

If you want something, you have to give something first.

(Knowing fed players, if they finally get access to cloaks and battle cloaks and get hit with the nerf bat by losing hull and BOFF stations in exchange for the cloak, there will be an uproar on the forums about the nerf, always complaining, never happy... silly silly feds).[/quote]

No one ever HAS to give up anything to get something. That battle cry is for PvPrs who just haz to have a perfect and fair homogenous play experience.

This is a game with lots of players. Depriving one side for the sake of another is never welcome. It's just as stupid to expect as all the 'nerf escorts/buff cruisers' pages that serve to take away something someone has paid real money for so someone else can win were they couldn't before.

The argument of the Feds don't fight that way is equally stupid. It's like saying one side can't develope a rifle because the other side has it and doesn't want you to. No one would tolerate something so silly. What that nation WOULD say is go pack sand, stop you aggression or we will definitely make the weapon system you don't want us to have.
Chingachgook told me, Don't try to understand them; and don't try to make them understand you. For they are a breed apart and make no sense.

Your not an actual Star Trek fan, are you?

I can only think you are not if thats the basis of your arguement on why the feds deserve cloaking.
The KDF playerbase is "depriving" the fed playerbase!!!!!!! LMAO. Thats rich.

Read the Path to 2409, the games on canon story on why things are as they are.
In there you will find the reason why cloaking is not a widely used fed technology in STO.

I really do think the issue of a cloaking device for federation ships needs to be addressed permanently and decisively. Since Cryptic is busy making more game content, I will save them some workshopping and make the following amazing proposal:

Wandering randomly around the galaxy is a special Ferengi merchant. It has no distinguishing features and there's no way to tell it apart from the others on sight. If one can get within .5 ly of it, though, a special "black market" button appears in the interaction menu.

This Ferengi Merchant will offer a special "Discount Cloaking Device" universal console. This console boosts nothing and only comes with a special toggle-able power called "Federation Cloak."

Activating this power causes a large cape-and-hood style cloak to appear around the ship's "neck". This cape is blue and has a Federation logo on it.

This way, everyone will be happy.

No, just no.

There's a very good reason why certain ships can cloak and others cannot. Just like why we don't have full 3D flight and cruisers don't have a 30 turn rate.

Because the Devs give the superior ships to the KDF (to shut up the players b/c of lack of KDF content) --- that's why.

It's a noble idea of yours, unfortunately, it's limited to a pipe dream.

I could agree with that but under the condition that it works like the b'rel did for 2 years as well as the bortasqu' did. Basically it means if you try to heal yourself you are seen. If you even try to cloak it won't matter because you can still be seen. So thats a big win for the federation to get exactly what we of the KDF had for such a long time
