Al confirmed in the Priority One podcast interview that it is a Heavy Escort which will be available in a three pack.

As someone looking to upgrade from a retro Defiant and a fan of the how the ship looks; I can't help but be disappointed.

It's also, as Al said on Twitter, "basically a flying gun."

Yes...I'm dumb. I was thinking Escort Carrier but that is not at all the case.

I'm back to digging for my money.

This would be my guess as well, it'll probably have a boff layout like an armitage so it can be the large big gun battleship people keep asking for. If they go that route I'd guess.... turn 12, inertia 80? Might even need to do a Gurumba like transformation to use the fifth weapon slot, gimping its turning further. More of a light cruiser with a tac boff station focus and a healthy amount of defenses.

Not necessarily... imagine equipping it with 5 forward DBBs or a combination of DBBs and torpedoes. It'd be a fantastic long range artillery ship. Admittedly I'm not sure how well that would work in PvP but its pretty clear PvP considerations aren't really a top Cryptic priority unless some nasty combos work their way to PvE.

Edit: As others have said, 5 forward weapons lots makes obsolete all other escorts unless this thing is gimped in ways we can't begin to imagine. If its not properly balanced... anyone else notice this ship would be coming out as fleets begin to get to T5 shipyards, and making T5 ships obsolete?

If they are giving it 5 forward facing guns, one possibly way they could balance it would be to use a dirty trick and make some of the default guns fused, like the modules in the temporal ambassador mission.

5x DHC in the front arc would indeed be pretty broken.

But if the ship comes with a fused beam array and a fused photon torpedo launcher, then that mitigates some of the potential damage.

Another possibility is it's 5x fore and 0x aft. No cutting beam and no turrets would probably keep the total dps reasonable.

Maybe some combination. Fused beam array, fused torp, and only 1 or maybe 2 aft weapons.

Either way, we don't know anything till they release stats. It might not have 5x fore weapons. It might have them but only 2 tac consoles. Or a turn rate of 3. Or less hull/shielding than a shuttle. We really know nothing at this point.

Will not play much till they fix the fleet-mark situation so no need for a new ship.

Simple:

5 fore guns 2 aft.

2 of the 5 fore do not have forward arcs, their arc is 45 degrees from the middle of the hull to fore. Aka it cant shoot anything in the fore 45 degrees.

that would make it a 3 fore 2 aft 2 broadside weapon slots.

essentially it allows the ship to be almost like a cruise if it loads full beam arrays... or have relatively decent forward firepower with added niche of broadside weapons.

it will probably be best as a 5 beam array 2 torpedo broadside ship.
