So, in watching some clips regarding Jazia and Ezri, it seems the answer to my question is...It's complicated. Should make for an interesting (if long) entry here.

According to the canon, the minds of the symbiont and host operate like networked computers. In the TNG episode, the Odan symbiont seemed to completely dominate the personalities of the host bodies, never changing, regardless of which 'meat suit' it was wearing. Ezri is an anomaly compared to Jadzia, in that she had not been trained to accomodate the new memories from Dax, so she got more confused as to who she actually was. Equally, this also allowed her to interact more with the memories of Joran Dax, like an independant internal monologue, in a way which Jadzia was never able to do. I kept the Trill first officer of the Endeavour unjoined to avoid this very issue

Yeah, it seemed to me sort of like a partnership. Between like a bajillion people and a slug.

You got the current host, and I'd say the lion's share of the Trill's visible personality is that person. Then you've got the slug, which has a bit of a personality and seems to have some say in the goings on. Then you've got this cacophony of previous hosts, all jostling for control and influencing the current host's thoughts and behavior. It's really just a metaphor for the human mind as it is already, a bunch of distinct voices vying for control. The angel and the devil, and so on.

All just vague impressions based on watching DS9. Not done any reading on this.

Your story was very good.

Favorite line: "The Risan porno star?" No explanation necessary.

Least favorite line: "What was your position aboard the Kumari?" she enquired, taking the PADD which Kincaid offered her, and glanced at the screen, and the cheerful, auburn-haired officer upon it, considerably different to the statuesque elegance which the Royal Protocol had created in its restructuring of Eleven's body. This says an awful lot for one sentence. But I didn't remember the Royal Protocol, so you got me when it comes to trivia.

My own entry is still a work in progress. I'm trying to not kill off anyone.

Well, thanks for your help everyone. Sounds like I've got an interesting story to tell this time.

Can't help you on answering that question. :-/

I definitely liked the introduction to Eleven! That said, I was rather surprised that Eleven didn't get to choose who her new body was modeled after. One might expect a woman to lodge an objection to a man choosing a porn-star body for her... :p

I was also surprised at the offhanded way the suicide of Rynar Lambert was reported. I'm curious--was he disliked by most of the crew?

Wouldn't you know it - first post in these forums, and I would have to be inspired by a Literary Challenge. I still think I could have done it better, but it was getting kind of long as it was...

Thanks, and I can see what you mean. I have a bad habit for run-on sentences, so I've smoothed that out, as well as placing it at the correct timeframe (Hard for the Doctor to have called up the bio before given her name ) As for killing off people, I go by the Babylon 5 yardstick that no one is gauranteed to make it to the credits

[Edit to add]
I forgot to address your point about the Royal Protocol. It was something I'd only read about in reference, but thought explained the multiple Borg Queens perfectly. I wanted to use a drone which had been so extensively modified that it would be impossible to be de-assimilated, and couldn't think of a better example of extreme modification
