# 1 Engineer in a science ship
02-17-2013, 12:28 PM
Long story short: I'm an engineer with a cruiser and want to plunge my hands into a fleet science ship. I haven't done PvP in over 2 years, and whatever PvP skill hasn't rusted out in me is meant mainly for cruiser and watching them scream in agony as they can't break me; however that is now changed.

I suppose what I'm requesting is some basic pointers on how to equip an egi. char. science ship for PvP that would be less than useless in dealing damage and on the other side be able to hold my own against a ship or two, providing a distraction while my team does their work etc. etc... you know how it is, tactics, plotting, scheming, backstabbing...

So a link you could refer me to, point out to another forum post, anything would a appreciated!

To be honest, I don't see a lot of advantages of having an engineer on a science ship, but if you do choose to go that route, you might want to try one of the more cruiser-like ships such as the D'kora or Nebula. They can benefit from your engineer hull healing abilities.

My general rule of thumb is to fly your character:

A) In a ship geared toward your class, because then you get synergy between the skillpoints you spend and your BOFF and Captain abilities.

B) In an escort, since this game has basically released an expansion edition called: Escorts Online

I've found the above to be true. I've tried every combo and Sci only really works with a Sci or Tac (yay damage boosts on everything no matter what) captain. Eng doesn't bring much to the Sci ship except for some hull healing that your shield buffs should keep from being needed anyway.

And with the subnuke nerf Sci exists solely as an "Imma Gonna Playa Gimp" challenge now.

If you're going to pvp, then stay away. If you only do pve like myself, it's not hard to build your ship and skillset to be near the top of the dps list every stf. But again, if you really just want dps, fly an escort. Cryptic blows at balancing, apparently, so yeah....Escorts Online.

So...

Rotate shield frequency on a ship which has 43% stronger shields than a cruier,
EPS power transer which is great on all ships,
Ramming speed, which people don't know can work as an escape power too,
Miracle worker, no clarification is even needed,
...
...

Are you saying that these powers don't work well with a Sci?

Oh, and I'm planning to buy a fleet nova, and please, no comments about the little bugger, a good PvP-er can kick your ass, but a great one can do it in any bucket above rear admiral rank!

I'm not exactly unskilled in PvP myself, but its just that I'm switching from cruisers to sci ships and I don't wanna bother by leveling another char.

Through the input of some clever science PvP fellows I believe I have constructed a PvP appropriate Science ship that also suits an engineer. I already engaged in three battles:

(1)
Fleet Nova engineer vs. Fleet defiant science officer
5<>4
Close victory, the last battle was 4:4 and the winner would be the one who took the last round, I won with 7% hull remaining.

(2)
Fleet Nova engineer vs. Fleet Nebula science officer
3<>0
Opponent surrendered. He was obviously unprepared for the ferocity the little sh*t displayed

(3)
Flet Nova engineer vs. Ferengi Dkora tactical officer
0<>0
We were basically playing a tag game of one dropping the other's hull to 10% then healing back to full again. After 50 minutes we declared an armistice!
