# 1 How about a Dauntless Class

The ship from Voyager Hope and Fear that had built in Quantum Slipstream ect. I know it was an alien ship but Voyager would have made detailed scans of the vessel and its systems, so its forseeable that Star Fleet could build such a vessel. Id love to see it, as a Long Range Cruiser that operates at slipstream speeds instead of warp drive normally in sector space. Make it a Science or Tactical ship. But id just love to see this hull in the game.

No thanks, the ship was rather ugly and didn't really resemble a federation ship much except for the grey hull color.

Having the Dauntless in the game is a no-brainer, and probably one of the ships still lurking on CaptGecko's whiteboard at his Cryptic office, if not somewhere in the back of his mind. Although the Dauntless that Voyager encountered was an elaborate trap, it also served as the origin of all the quantum slipstream technology Starfleet and (for whatever gamey reason) the KDF take for granted in 2409.

I will say this, however, that it is effectively outdated by the presence of the Vesta series of ships, and that could be a design problem in terms of STO. With the two-piece Experimental Systems console set, you have the most advanced QSD in the known galaxy with 60 secs of slipstream speed plus high maneuverability (Odyssey comes close, but lacks the enhanced turning speed of the Vesta).

What will the Dauntless bring to the table? The whole ship was not built for combat, but for QSD and particle synthesis technology. It's a small ship, even smaller than Voyager was, so the crew count will be low along the lines of the new Kumari escorts, but it would likely be a science ship, so weapons would be the usual 3 fore/3 aft, and a high shield mod with reduced hull HP. Also, the fact that it has QSD automatically makes it a Vice Admiral level ship.

The issue of particle synthesis is a whole new beast unto itself. More advanced than current holographic technology (more along the lines of replicators, only better), it could be a pseudo-cloak ability that is similar to the USS Incursion from a little-known Trek game from year 2000 called Away Team. A Particle Synthesis universal console could allow players to disguise their Dauntless to match the appearance of whatever ship they have selected upon activation. I could see this as being a clever Trojan Horse type of power, especially in PvP where you can pick an enemy ship, and effectively make yourself one of them. You will appear friendly to them as if they were placated, but friendlies would still see you as one of them too so as not to cause confusion and be fired upon your own side.

Just some sauce for the goose. Let's make it happen.

I'd love to have a Dauntless. We know that Starfleet used them in the 26th century, which is only a century off. We've been using the Miranda for much longer.

Correction: we know someone doing VFX for Enterprise snuck it in as an easter egg, there was a VFX mistake, or they just didn't care.

By that logic the Steemrunner has been in service since series 3 of ENT, as it's a few fleet shots.
Delta Rising is the best ex... oh sod it, I just want my Jupiter and Typhoon

And the Millennium Falcon was at the Battle of Sector 001.

It's still canon.

That was the Intrepid. They're similar, but not the same design.

Again, so is the Millennium Falcon fighting the Borg? And the Enterprise-D firing phasers from the torpedo tube? And all other VFX gaffes or easter eggs?

It was just a boneheaded choice by a VFX guy trying to fill out a shot, nothing more.
