# 1 Dump the Aux Heavy Cannons?

Hello everyone,
On my science toon, I've got the science Vesta, and I'm thinking about droping the Auxiliary Dual Heavy Cannons and going with a beam array build. I know this will drop my DPS some, and it's great to be able to use cannons on a science ship, but here's my thinking:

Right now I've got:

Dual Phaser beam bank, Omega Torppedo, Auxiliary dual heavy cannons fore, two phaser turrets, kinetic cutting beam aft.
I want to be able to utilize ALL science abilities, so I use the dual phaser beam bank for subsystem targeting. Trouble is, this requires me to try to balance my weapon power (so my regular weapons are not flashlights) and auxiliary power (so my heavy cannons are not only fireworks) This is difficult to do and I feel I'm not getting the most power possible to any weapon system.

My idea:
Go to all beam arrays, or maybe dual beams and torp in fore, turrets and cutting beam in back, and here's why:
Will beam arrays, I can still use subsystem targetting. They will all power from my weapons subsystem anyway, so I can keep weapon power high and use aux to bat (because I'll have tons of aux power with no drain) to help all levels.
I know I could use all regular phaser cannons, but again, I want to utilize subsystem targetting.

Any suggestions? Has anyone ever done this, or something similar? Let me know if I'm crazy or if there is merit to dropping the Auxiliary cannons...

I follow my own personal axiom when it comes to equipping weapons on ships.

If you can slot DHCs, you probably should slot DHCs. Again, there are exceptions to this rule, but the Vesta is not one of them.

If you do want to utilize SST, I would think a DBB on the fore would suffice, since the Vesta can easily swing her nose at whatever you wish to shoot at, or perhaps a single Beam Array on the back so you can deliver maximum forward damage with 3 DHCs/DCs and then tag them with SST as you pass by. Some Escorts have done the same trick, but using Beam Overload as they're turning away for an extra punch.

Just my 2 EC on the subject.

I've flown the Vesta tac version quite a bit before I moved to a fleet escort and I'll say this, she's an elegant and worthy ship. She's got tank, maneuverability and can dish out some dmg. She's great middle of the road for all of that.

My suggestion to you is that you use your aux DHC's. Face it the weaps in your rear are going to be turrets or 2 turrets and a kinetic cutting beam, or a mine layer I suppose. The turrets do so little dmg that having to balance high weap / aux isn't always needed. Just put enough weap to make the turrets do their thing and crank the aux. If you're concerned about SST, then stick a DBB on the nose, but honestly I don't think the small use of SST is worth killin' a DHC for.

If you stick all power in weapons and use auxiliary to battery then you'll end up with luke warm science skills as you will have practically no auxiliary power. The whole reason people were going bat **** crazy (well the science ship captains anyway) was because with aux DHCs you can dump all power in aux, 50 in shields, tank, heal and do good damage all without having to balance power.

Subsystem targeting is nice but not worth it as it's only rank 1.

OK, sounds like the consensus so far is I should use DHCs if possible. I can do that. However, what about using STANDARD DHCs instead of AUX DHCs? This would allow me to put my power into weapons and not drain my Aux power. (Since I'm Science, I'm fully speced into Auxiliary power and with the bonus of the Vesta, I sit around 100 aux power anyway). That way I could have plenty of Aux power to use Gravity Well and other science powers, and Aux to Batt when other levels need a boost.

Use your DHCs up front.

Keep 2 mine/torpedo launchers in back, with 1 Beam Array at 25 Weapons power. When you want to hit them with B:TSS, then just swing around so that rear 250' arc is facing. Once it's fired, swing back around to the front and use your DHCs.
The first we heard of getting new PvP maps "soon" was in August of 2010. We're consistently told something will be coming with the "next" update. Absolutely nothing has come to PvP since launch.

I think it's finally time Cryptic stopped stringing us along, don't you?

Agree with others, put beam in rear.

That just sounds wrong.

That's why you put 100 in Aux power, and maybe 40 in Weapons and 35 in Shields power (to get the most kick out of the ship, if you are running all Aux DHC fore, and 3 Fleet Phaser Turrets rear).

I think it would be really nice if cryptic were to add Aux powered turrets and Dual Beam Banks. That would solve the weapon power problem.
