The Kumari's strongest fighting in a formation, and weak if the pilot gets away from his buddies-it's not a dogfighter in the least, and if you use Raptor tactics, you'll do a lot better with it, than if you try to fly it like a Defiant, Bugship, or MVAE.
It's all about the tactics, not the build-I've gotten kills on Kumari with a engie in a Heght'ta, but that's when said Kumari does the stupid thing and runs out on his lonesome to pick a fight. The ship's just not designed for dogfighting in the traditional sense-it's a "heavy" the way that the Curtis P-40 was in 1938 against the Mitsubishi A6M or FW-190, it turns too slow to be out on its' own, but it works just fine if you fly it...
as an ESCORT to a Heavy (like an Engie or Sci in a Galaxy or Oddyssey), or in wing pairs with either another of the same type, or a Fleet Advanced or Patrol escort.
The Kumari Jockeys I've seen being successful in PuGging C&H and Arena (and over Ker'rat) don't outrun their support or dash off on their own to pick a fight, they stay close in formation and make use of their gun-power to supplement and/or cover a heavier, tougher, but less DPS-ey ship.
Incidentally, this is also roughly the tactics I've seen successful Raptor drivers do-they either mate up in pairs, or pair off on a Cruiser.
It's NOT a bad ship-it's not an Overpowered ship, either-it's a GOOD ship with some unique features, but it is definitely built to follow a certain paradigm in combat engagements-like the Greek Phalanx fighters (specifically the Spartans) of the ancient world, it needs to work in a formation to be truly effective. On it's own, it has too many vulnerabilities (turn rate, shields and hull) against it's most likely counters on the other side (the superb Bird of Prey classes in FvK/Ker'rat, or the superb Defiant and Saber classes in FvF).
"when you're out of Birds of Prey, you're out of ships."
Whoever brings one against my team in PvP is asking for a severe beatdown as you stick out like a sore thumb, and I usually do the target calling, so you'll have plenty of DHCs, Beams, ...
no escort (even a jhas) and no cruiser or carrier can survive such a treatment for a "long" time, without healing from teammates.
when the andorian escort gets the needed support, it can destroy its targets even faster, than a jhas.
i am still testing the andorian escort. my current impression is, that endurance and turn rate are only slightly worse, in comparison to a jhas. on the other hand the andorian escort has the significant better damage output.
imo it is not possible to judge, whether the jhas or the andorian escort is the superior escort. it only depends on the players piloting skill and style
The tac version dies too fast without support. The eng version is a decent escort, but turns poorly. Defiants and (of course!) bug ships are problems.
I'll be curious to see if the changes on Tribble make any of the special consoles worth anything.
(Nerf Bug ship turn rates now! kthxbye)

When I have a wingman (as has been noted) I am really liking the sci version of the Smurf. Had a lot of fun late nights last weekend in it with a buddy. Even alone, I can last a while, but against bug, bop, saber and defiant jocks, I really need to be on my game.
