It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.

not exactly what i would call a horror story; you managed to finish (a rare thing for a pugged CSE), AND you got the optional (even more rare)

overall, it sounds like you had a relatively decent run that just wasn't as efficient as it could've been were circumstances different

It's more along the lines of how stressful it was. The Odysseys were just... embarrassing. I fly an Oddy, and it can probably put out 3x the DPS they were putting out. And you're right, it wasn't so horrible so much as just painful. It basically came down to my Chel'Gret and a Dreadnought. Not fun.

I always find it entertaining, when a game finishes with optional, and my three turrets deal overall more dps, than two of them rainbow oddys combined (well, that is the usual case, but they have outdone once three oddys)

Had one of the classic fails yesterday (ISE)

It didn't really look overly encouraging from the start, as there were no escorts; we had myself, using my Vesta, two Odyssey's, a Sovereign and a Excelsior (non-fleet vesion).

First cube whacked with ease, however when we moved onto the left cube the fool in a rainbow Sovereign started blasting one of the transformers. Every other team member requested/demanded that said player focus on the cube first, but chat was either off or the player simply ignored us.

Cube went boom; sadly, so did the fool's transformer - the rest of the team did their best to destroy the remaining three (left side) transformers, whilst I took my Vesta and used a combo of Graviton shield and GWIII to slow the spheres down, before moving to assist the others.

Sadly it was of no avail - we didn't quite manage to despatch the generator before a nanite sphere got within range (despite my attempts at interference) and the red text of fail promptly appeared.

Unfortunately, subsequent to the red text of fail, one of the Odyssey's rage-quitted. The Excelsior shortly followed (though simply vanished without a word). The other Odyssey commented that continuing wasn't worthwhile and also departed. I agreed and joined them, leaving only the idiot in the rainbow Sovereign, who was (laughably) still getting their backside kicked, completely oblivious to both the lack of other players and (presumably) the mess they'd made.

Even more unfortunately, was hit with the one-hour penalty afterward

I posted here ages ago, but since then a bad run on CSE happened. I know pugging this map is a bad idea, worse than any other. But I went with it anyway.

So I warped in and got to work. Of course no one was talking but I noticed a ship heading slowly toward the Kang, so assumed it was protected and went to work on the right hand probes. I'm Guessing that RMMRLL was going to be the plan so me along with an Atrox took down the probes with no trouble.

Then the Atrox pilot started on the cube. I asked him/her politely to leave the cube alone but they didn't/wouldn't listen. The cube goes and the raptors spawn. All ships are now scrambling to destroy them and I stick to taking the probes down. I mention in chat this is why the cube needs to stay up, perhaps a little snappy but if it were a new player they needed to know. The raptors are now laying into the Kang so I get back there myself to help out, when I noticed that no-one has bothered to heal the Kang at all. I'm in a BoP but I throw HE2 on it and I just managed to finish typing 'at least someone heal the Kang' before it goes up. Mission failed.

Before I leave some other idiot who I believe was protecting the Kang (and obviously doing a real good job) decided to say 'faggots' in team chat before leaving. This pissed me off even more than the Atrox pilot, haven't touched the map since.

While there are certainly worse experiences, today I was part (and leader) of two examples of how not to do the Elite Infected Space mission. As the first mission had already gone wrong, I made sure that the first thing I typed after the guardians were taken down was "10 percent rule". It should not even be necessairy to type something like that in an Elite STF, but whatever.

I didn't get any reply. Nor did I get any questions. What I did get was three waves of (Nanite) spheres coming to the transformers, as someone blew up the first generator while others were still above 50 %. He didn't have that much firepower, he simply started firing at it while we were taking down the cube.

Of course, what happened next is the battle between my beloved (..) teammates and the normal spheres. So I type, "Nanites first". While they did listen this time, we couldn't take down the transformer (everyone was flying a cruiser, except me and one other person. Now, cruisers can do enough damage, if you know how to use it. And if you know how to play a mission).

Someone left, and I can't blame him. Fortunately, another player was added to the team in less than a minute.

But things get worse. While we were taking down the third wave, and after that started shooting at the transformer, I noticed I was missing someone. It was my favourite teammate, the one who destroyed the generator before he should have. He was lying at the other transformer. Fearing his actions by now, I quickly typed (while keeping my shields up which we being drained by the normal spheres and while targeting the transformer) "don't destroy the generators over there (player name)".

This time I did get a response. It was a simple "why?" So I explained. At first he seemed to get it, but before we arrived and took down the cube at the right side, he destroyed the generator. Apparantly, even after explaining and mentioning things three times, some people are still not able to do something with the advice you give. This time things did go a little faster however, as everyone started targeting the nanite spheres now instead of the normal ones. I still had to type "transformer" in the chat box to make sure everyone would fire at it as soon as we had a chance to damage it, but in the end we succeeded. Taking down the gate and the cube went pretty well, but the entire mission took us over half an hour.

I think this mission was a perfect example of what could go wrong in one mission. And I simply don't get it. If you join an Elite mission, why don't you know anything about that same mission?

Why, if someone starts talking about a rule, you don't ask about it if you don't know what it means?
Why, if the optional objetive fails, don't these people know that they should target the Nanite spheres first, instead of playing with the normal ones (something that happens far too often)?
Why don't people listen to a team leader?
Why, after a rule has been explained, don't people take the advice?

And most important: why are these people allowed in an Elite STF? I shall be honest, I didn't know certain things myself for a while. But at least, if someone gives me any kind of advice, I listen to it and do something with it. And of course, everyone has to learn before they can do it the right way. But that's what the Normal STF's are for if you ask me: there you can learn how to do things, if you join an Elite mission, I expect you to already have learned about the mission. If you haven't, there should at least be an option for the team leader to kick someone from the team.

and who exactly ends up being a leader in a PUG? and before you answer, self-elections don't count

if it was a premade, and everyone else deferred leadership to you, that's different, but you're describing what sounds like a PUG, and there are no leaders in PUGs unless everyone unanimously selects one person to be the go-to guy/gal

Actually I meant the squad leader.. don't know for sure if it's a real leader or something, but that's what it is called in the STF's.

Let me put it this way: why don't people listen to the only person talking and mentioning possible strategies?

i don't think team or squad leader mechanics get applied with random groups, otherwise team leaders would be able to kick someone from the team, though it wouldn't do much good since said person would still be in the instance

as for your question, there are several possible answers:

one, the person may be a foreigner and can't understand english, or whatever language someone may be using

two, the person may have his/her chat window closed

three, the person may be a troll/greifer, and so will do the exact opposite of whatever someone says

and four, the person may just be an all-around jerk

there may be other reasons, bit those are the top reasons i usually see pop up in this thread
