# 1 Choice of ship classes

Does anyone else ever have a problem with other players trying to grief you because your choice of ship classes may not necessarily be in line with your career path?

I had some guy last night on Infected elite tell me that my choice wasn't good for the team, because I was a Sci and I should've been flying a science ship instead of a cruiser. I feel that if I'm doing more DPS than you, and I'm not getting killed as often as you, and I'm doing an additional duty (i.e. crowd control), then you should have nothing to say to me regarding my choice of ship. Obviously I've made it made it work for me and the rest of the team as well.

I have an engineer that never fly cruiser. Always in escorts. Never had a complain against me.
I also have a sci that fly a breen destroyer (until I bought a Wells, 2days ago), and never had a complain.

However, sometimes I complain about tac using cruiser, with abysmal DPS, and failing the optional. Happen sometimes while flying my "low DPS" wells with my sci. And still be top parser with it.
I wouldn't mind if they did the necessary DPS to do the optional. Which mean I would also complain if they used an escort with the same DPS.

But I'm shy, polite and lazy, which mean I complain only behind the safety of my screen.

I suppose, as long as the optional is done, and the stf, nobody complain. I usually top parser in pug with my engineer and my sci in the breen ship. While still making, with my sci, huge gravity well with fully debuffed sphere for everyone to blow and stopping nanite to reach the transformer. Not saying I'm super good, mostly that others in pug are not great, but meaning they won't complain on someone that is an asset for them.

That person was being silly. There's some others who will say that being a science vessel period isn't good for the team regardless of what your class is, and they're silly also, but at least they're silly for reasons we could argue about, since they're about game balance.

Your career choice is only part of your "class." Sort of the way WoW's talent system effectively splits each class into three separate classes, STO's ship classes split careers into more than one actual class. Kits do the same on the ground - an engineer with bunker fabrication is quite different from one with enemy neutralization.
