I am currently planning on putting my science toon, currently in a Mirror Deep Space Science Vessel, into a Vesta (specifically the Engineering variant (Multi-Mission Strategic Explorer)), but I need some advice.
1. Should I get the 3-pack, or just the individual ship?
2. Are the consoles that come with the Vesta variants any good or not?
3. Here is a link to the skillpoints that I am planning on running on this ship. Note that this is for PvP and for PvE, I will replace VM3 with GW3, and PH1,SS1,TBR2 with TT1,C:RF1,APO1.
Below is the equipment I plan to use on this ship:
3 x Aux Phaser Dual Heavy Cannons Mk XII [Acc]x2 [Dmg] or 2 x Aux Phaser Dual Heavy Cannons Mk XII [Acc]x2 [Dmg] & 1 x Dual Phaser Beam Bank Mk XI [Acc]x2
A combination of Phaser Beam Array Mk XI [Acc]x2 & Phaser Turrets Mk XI [Acc]x2
Deflector: Adapted M.A.C.O. Positron Deflector Array Mk XII
Engines: Adapted M.A.C.O. Combat Impulse Engines Mk XII
Shields: Adapted M.A.C.O. Covariant Shield Array Mk XII
2 x Console - Science - Emitter Array Mk XI (for both PvP and PvE)
Console - Science - Particle Generator Mk XI & Console - Science - Graviton Generator Mk XI (for PvE)
2 x Console - Science - Field Generator Mk XI (for PvP)
3 x Console - Tactical - Phaser Relay Mk XI
Why different things for PvP and PvE?
In STO, the truth is that most PvE content realies soley on how much DPS your ship can delivier to the target, which is why escorts (and high-DPS crusiers) are generally preferred for activites such as STF's. In PvP, however, this is not the case, and Science ships are very valuable, especially when shutting down the opponent. This build is trying to get the best of both worlds: have medium-high DPS in PvE, but be valuable & versatile in PvP. This can only be accomplished fully by switching out equipment and BoFF's when switching from PvE to PvP and vice-versa.
Not sure on whether I should use torpedos/mines instead of the turrets and beam banks.
