Just remember that if you think any mission content is "hard" or "requires a specific build", that every mission in the game has been beaten on Elite in a standard-issue shuttle. If you can't beat it with your ship, the problem is you, not the game. After all, you're playing on normal and have the ship of your choice...not a standard-issue shuttle.

Ignore these people that say you need a specific build.

You could fly a Lt. Level ship and clear most content from start to the borg front if you wanted to. What you need to do is realize the enemy you are fighting. The Romulans have powerful alpha strikes and the D'deridex is a master of control.

If you want to beat one, stay out of it's forward arc as much as possible. If you find you ARE in the forward arc with several high yield plasma torps coming your way pop those shield resist buffs and evasive maneuvers yourself to a safer distance to dispatch those torps then get back into the fray...while trying to stay out of his forward arc.

You are an escort so you can decide which side you are fighting ALL DAY. Don't listen to people spouting about you needing a specific build. It is ridiculous. You simply need to know your enemy and react accordingly.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unlike the original poster, I'm in a cruiser. Once I got my captain's cruiser and set the difficulty to normal, I had an easy time of this encounter. Yes, staying out of the Romulan's front arc helped a lot. Now I kinda wish I'd kept the difficulty on advanced, but I can try that with my next character, I suppose.

You can always replay the mission on advanced with the same character if you wanted.
In a cruiser, probably one of the most useful abilities to deal with the torpedoes is fire at will.

Is this the one with the Reman Warbird at the end? Yeah. That one gave me trouble, too. They definitely need to tone it back a tad.

I agree with you. Players should be able to get by on what they want, and if they're interested in roflstomp, then its there, and they can choose it to be more effective.

For you though, I'd recommend flying cruisers, which are more suited to tanking inordinate amounts of damage. They tend to to be mine boats as well.

Went back and did this mission in a Miranda with mk I equipment on normal. That included the final enemy. It's EASILY do-able, especially in an Escort.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.

Whenever I take a cruiser into a tougher engagement, I always prioritize keeping Emergency Power to Shields running (having two copies of EPtS 1 should be fine), and I pop Auxiliary to Structural Integrity Field whenever there's torpedoes coming I can't shoot down. The additional damage resistances offered by those two skills neuters the majority of incoming torpedo damage. If you're taking fire from Plasma Torpedoes, you could also hit Hazard Emitters preemptively, additional hull damage resistance and negates the Plasma Fire proc, though I typically prefer to hold it until I'm actually on fire.

I am leveling a Fed these days and I am doing Romulan missions with an escort. Granted the D'deridex are troublesome but nothing that can't be handled. They turn slowly so try to stay away from their front arc if possible, they will use Viral Matrix if they face you, which will turn off everything except shields. Also, try to stay farther away than 5km, if you get to 4.99km it will probably be your doom if you don't have Scatter Volley or Fire @ Will (if you use Dual Beam Banks).

D'deridex are tough, but once you learn their tactics they will not seem so intimidating, but they will still be kinda tough (I have fought them many times, I have learned how to counter them but I still think they're not to be underestimated).

I hear disco cruisers are all the rage now a days!!! Just fit one of each weapon type for MASSIVE damage!!!! You dont see it very much because its so OP people stopped using it because it was not fun anymore

Seeing this topic i'm reminded i haven't done this mission in a shuttle for some time.

Delta Flyer, Singularity set and stay 5km out and watch the fireworks.
