# 1 Cannon's on a Dreadnought
03-03-2013, 04:44 AM
I have finally FOUND my salvation. For months I have been looking for a ship that appeals to me and has the firepower I have been craving without having to turn into an "Escort Junkie" or "Fighter Jock" as our fleet call them.

Then it dawned on me... The Galaxy X Cruiser is primarily a Galaxy (my favorite ship) and it can load DHC's. So I did a little experimentation and found a Galaxy-X Cruiser that is essentially a fantastic mix of a cruiser and escort.

A lot of people complain about the Gal-X's turn rate but as somebody who's always flown cruisers I barely notice this. Not with the advantage of cloaking... I went into a PvP, snuck up on an Andorian Escort, decloaked, Phaser Lance, critted and then opened fire with my three DHC's on the front and High Yield Quantum and utterly obliterated that little fighter jock.

He then decided to whisper me with abuse, as Escort pilots usually cannot take Cruiser's beating them. But its all good...

My point is, Tachyokinetic Converter gives you a +22% Turn Rate to the Dreadnought making more then capable to use its cannons. Sure, Escorts will try to get right up your but as they do but if you stick some nice mines of high yield plasma's on the rear, even warp plasma gets rid of them.

So don't count cruisers out yet... A lot of it is ability with the ship you have, not just the ship itself. It doesn't matter how many guns Cryptic gives these escorts, a knowledgeable and powerful cruiser captain can take them down.

So don't despair Cruiser guys... We just need to unite and stay strong and show these Escort junkies, we ain't going anywhere!

Basically, this is my Galaxy-X (same as a canon D'Deridex Warbird), there are others like it but this one is mine!

This part made me cheer. It's good to hear there are guys who are making cruisers work. Especially the Gal-X.

With just a few tweeks the Galaxy X could be one of the best cruisers in the game. This Layout would serve the ship well

Console:
TAC - 4
ENG - 4
SCI - 2

TAC - LT CMDR
TAC - ENS
ENG - CMDR
UNI - LT
SCI - LT
Bump the turn rate to 10 or at least 8 and shorten the Lance cooldown to 2 min. And the Fleet varient should have a little more hull and base Shields.

Nice to finally hear some praise for this particular ship... and I am also amazed to hear so many people get hate text from disgruntled escort players!? Talk about being a sore loser! Well done, I wish all cruisers could mount whatever weapons you want as I'd rather fly a cruiser personally... keep us posted on your progress, might give the dreadnought a whirl.

Hey man, can you pass me your build to compare with mine?

As the OP demonstrates the Galaxy X already IS one of the best cruisers in the game. Is fully capable of popping escorts with an alpha strike. And doesn't need any tweaks.

Kudos to the OP for harnessing the power of the dreadnought!

I say no to tunring it into ANOTHER cruiser like that, we have 2 Fed cruisers like that already. Let me keep my cruiser-Escort not my Escort-with-a-eng-slot

Well... a lt. Cmdr tac wouldn't hurt the Galaxy -X just as the universal Lt.
Giving it a additional Tac console would also give it a bit more teeth.
Some, like you for example who would like to use instead only Lt. tactical BOFF powers are still free to use just a Lt.
Similar to the Tac Consoles. You want only 3? heck, so use only 3.

My point is, a BOFF & console Layout would make the Galaxy -X much more on par with other combat oriented ships, like the new Jem hadar Cruiser/dreads. It would make the Galaxy Dreadnought much more capable in combat.

I can't see anything bad with admgreer suggestions TBH.

On the other hand giving a ship that is capable to use heavy cannons only a lt. tactical seems to me like a evil joke.

But hey, that's just my opinion, i am sure you are much more qualified to judge something like that much better than me.

My build is as follows, I believe in sharing builds with other Cruiser guys to build up a fanbase for Cruisers and show Cryptic that NO, we DON'T want to fly Escorts.

I'm a Tactical

Fore Weapons: 2 x Fleet Phaser DHC's Mark XII Damage x 3, 1 x Phaser Quad Cannons, 1 x Mark XI Quantum Torpedo Acc x 2

Shields: M.A.C.O - Mark XII - Maco is arguably the best cruiser shield, even without the rest of the set.

Deflector: Borg Mark XI

Engines: Borg Mark XI - I use Borg for the Autonomous Regeneration because of the hull buff which works well in my build and stacks my resistance as we as healing me. A Cruiser should always take advantage of its high hull.

Rear Weapons: 3 x Fleet Phaser Turrets Mark XII Damage x 3, 1 x Purple Plasma Torpedo Mark XI Acc x 2 (Plasma for any escorts that like to get up my backside - Slows them down nicely)

Engineering: AMS/Cloak (Depends on Situation) 2 x Nuetronium (My Bad XD) Mark XI Armour , Tachyokinetic Coverter

Science: Field Generator Mark XI, Borg Assimilated Console

Tactical: 3 x Phaser Relay Mark XI

That's the Elysium, now for my boffs

Lt Tac: Torpedo High Yield 1, Cannon Rapid Fire 1 (Switch between Spread and Scatter depending on situation, Support cruiser and DPS) - Scatter is Awesome for Annoying Adds and Fighters, Also the Hyper Plasma a lot of Escorts spam.

Ens Tac: Tactical Team 1

Com Eng: EM to Weapons 1, Aux to Damp 1, RSP II, Aux to Structual III

Lt Com Eng: Engineering Team 1, EM to Shields II, EM to Shields III (EM to Shields III can be switched for Extend Shields if acting as support cruiser)

Lt Sci: Sci Team 1, HE II

If you have any questions about this build or critiques, please feel free to post them here.

FACR. Turns better than a Galaxy-X, has a better power layout, and has more hull. Can't load DHCs, but with my BAs, I can actually destroy a surprisingly large number of escort pilots due to the 4 tac consoles and LtCmdr tac station. Gives you a surprising amount of firepower for a ship using BAs. Also doesn't screw me with firing arcs.

So yes, cruisers are viable damage dealers if built and used properly. But they still have a long way to go before coming anywhere close to a lot of escorts.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.
