Yes! In order to power the lance they had to significantly upgrade the warp core. Since the ship now had more power capacity they were able to add an additional nacelle for faster travel in warp.

I always pictured the phaser lance as a high powered starbase phaser emitter that was never meant for a starship. Due to the large internal capacity and flexibility of the galaxy class they figured out a way which involved major refitting.

Most recently, last week's interview by STOked Radio with Dan Stahl. Dan did a Q&A (after the 39 minute mark) and confirmed a Fleet Gal-X is coming, but mentioned nothing further. Elsewhere in the show, he did mention graphic issues with the saucer separation and pessimism about seeing that feature anytime soon.

hmm, if there is a fleet gal-x coming, maybe we will eventually get a galaxy class carrier refit.
as it turns out, an intrepid would lose a fight with a connie.

In the little story I'm writing/illustrating it's bunker buster designed to take out planetside bases.

Honestly though, I don't understand why the Galaxy-X doesn't get a sector space boost.

I'm happy enough with the dread's console layout. Give me another tac or sci console and my saucer sep and call it a day.

Yeah, people lose their minds over ltcom tac slots, but its not all that really. Shifting away any more eng would hurt her survivability, and while the masses cry that survivability is useless, people who actually know how to play know better.

Tho, thanks for the weekly thread about how the dread isn't built how you like and needs to be turned into a different ship.

Tbh, I would like (note: would like, I don't necessarily think the Galaxy needs it, per se) a lt cmdr tac slot, so one could use APO:1, as a combined turn rate/damage booster.

What the ship needs, imo, is another tac console, and potentially a +1 or 2 in turn rate. That'd do the trick, as far as I'm concerned.

*shrug*
I don't think it's quite as bad as some people make it out to be. It's just presented as a very offensive cruiser, with the lance and dual cannon option and all, while it's a bit tame, compared to pretty much all other c-store cruisers.

Maybe what they should be doing is like starting on putting more officer slots since its fleet version instead like per ex:

Eng Commander
Eng Lt. Commander
Tac Commander
Tac Lt
Sci LT
Universal ensign

Now this is what I am suggesting for all fleet ships and the Galaxy X but the format that I have put in here is just an example.

No it wouldn't, not at all.

For starters a Lt Cmdr tactical station will give you access to Attack Pattern Omega, one of the best BOff tanking powers in the game outside of RSP. Losing one Lt Cmdr engineering power is not going to hurt the ship, especially compared to the benefits it'll bring.

In PvE it'll mean easy chaining of Cannon Rapid Fire with no loss in tanking (especially since an escort can tank fire from eliteSTF NPCs using only three engineering powers). In PvP it'll mean increased tankiness if you take Attack Pattern Delta (increased damage resist) and Attack Pattern Omega (increased bonus defense, speed, turnrate, damage resist, breaking holds and defending against stuns).

Oh and since people already started bringing out fantasies:
I'd actually prefer if we got 3 versions like with the other ships as well as 3 consoles making a set.

Tac Console:
Advanced Targeting systems
+ x % acc
+ x% crit
+x% maneuverability

Engineering Console:
High-Yield Warpcore

+ 5 Shield Energy
+ 5 Weapon Energy
(Making with the ships base stats + 10 Weap % Shields and 5 for Aux and Propulsion)
+ x% Energy transfer rate

Sci Console:
Large scale cloaking system

Cloak
Harder to detect


Set Bonus
2P: Dreadnought Saucer Separation
3 P: 1 Minute Lance CD reduction

Each ship costing 2500; and a 5k bundle would exist.

(I doubt it will happen but it would be cool )
