I do plan on buying a limited amount of Zen, so I want to know what I should save that for, and use the Zen I get from Dil trading for ships and etc.
Yup, any Zen you buy from the store or buy ingame via the Dil exchange is exacually the same, no difference when it comes down to buying upgrades like extra slots, EC upgrade ect

One good thing most people do is get a sub for 1 month while levelling up your characters as when you drop back to silver (F2P) you get to keep the bonuses earned - its best to find a cheap unopened copy of the game for the game code with 1 month of gold membership as it will be cheaper than a sub

With that you get 1 respec token every 10 levels, 500 Zen (normally to buy the EC upgrade with), Account Bank, extra Inventory, Extra Bank slots, more BO slots and i think a couple of other goodies

STOWiki might help you

All the quests/missions can be replayed, if you do a lieutent mission and like the item at maximum level you could go back and redo the mission and get the item again but with better stats ect

Thanks so much verlaine11 for the reply! If anyone has any other tips, much appreciated. Will definitely be reading the stowiki. If anyone has any opinions about which career path helps you level fastest, please let me know. I'm leaning on tactical since it's the most popular and I have to believe it's the most popular for a reason. Then science because I read it's the rarest.

If you haven't started, just do the tutorials.Don't worry about leveling,it'll happen.I remember not even bothering to name one of the free ships becauseI got the next one so fast.Of course, depends how much you'll be playing.

you don't have to put any numbers from your card in just click on the type of card you have or want to use and then it shows amounts you can buy you don't actually put your card numbers in till your actually gonna do the purchase.

But you do pay a markup at the store (sometimes) plus sales tax (unless you're in Oregon or other no-tax location).

For example, at my local gamestop after everything is added up the prepaid $20 card costs $25.70 which makes it not worth buying even during the 15% bonus zen sale.
I get my $20 cards from walgreens and there is no tax included I live in Colorado so I am not excluded of sales tax just certain items do not get hit with the sales tax like most things I even have bought from Wal-mart and had no sales tax on the cards.

Also, a few other questions if you're so kind to answer:

What career is best for noobs? I'm guessing the answer is either tactical or it doesn't matter. However, I'd assume if any career path helps you grind out levels the fastest, it would be tactical for killing enemies faster. Also, if a certain career is better for grinding resources, I'd like to know because I can use that to fund another character (if possible) that I'll like more after learning from all the mistakes I made with the first one.

What can you regret doing as you learn this game / what will prevent me from having to buy the respecialization/reset item? I'm guessing it's just what skills you level up. I'll be reading guides so I specialize on what I intend to. Also, are there quest caps. Some games, new players sometimes regret not knowing about certain quests that give special items and/or points and when they find out about it, they cannot do the quest anymore.

That's pretty much it for me. I spent one day trying to play the game, and I was really lost. I tried to read up on the game, but it resulted in basically a braindead person staring into space. Think it's best to just jump in and learn, but the above three questions pretty much prevented me from diving into the game at full force. Thanks STO community!
your first question was answered for ya and it was correct you can get anything in the c-store buy exchanging dilithium for zen. The other question might be answered by you once you figure out your style of game play since most the game deals with space combat you might (not always) spec for space and not worry to much about ground but that depends on you as well I like to play both so I put into both space and ground.
I play each class and have 21 characters 13 Feds and 8 KDF and find that yes I use my tacs for going after dilithium and some times my engineers as well but not as much as the tacs also besides STOwiki.org you might look into stoacademy.com as it helps me with planning my skill tree and you can find other players builds there as well, hope some of this helps you out, but remember the most important thing just have fun playing and experiencing the game and in turn you will find what you like the most.
