# 1 fed eng ship recommendation
03-11-2013, 10:15 AM
My fed is an Engineer. He has the RA Patrol Escort with DHC/DBB loadout, and the RA Ambassador Support Cruiser with beams/torps. Both are pretty much "finished" in terms of setup and items (just some grinding left now), and now I'm looking for the definitive ship to move him into. I'd say the Carrier Escort calls out to me the most, but I dont know enough about the lineup. I would like something that is competitve for all around gameplay, some PVE and some PVP, but I'm not looking to spend any RL money and prefer to avoid fleet commitment but might be willing

First of all, if you want to be "competitive for all around gameplay", you are either going to spend some money in this game, or grind and grind for ages, and convert dil to ZEN.

Second. What kind of role are you thinking of playing as an Engineer?

*Tanker (Self-heals)
*Healer (Team-heals)
*Damage dealer
*Support ship

Your best fitting ship will depend on what you intend to do with it.

Cruisers:

Excelsior Retrofit: Very good cruiser, turn rate and boff seats are good for a mix of tanking and damage.
Regent Assault Cruiser: Good cruiser, turn rate is 7, boff seats favour offense. Could do some heals on the side.
Galaxy-X Dreadnought: My personal favourite, boff seats and high hull rating make this a very good tanking and healing cruiser. DO NOT try to make this ship a high DPS ship unless you are sticking to PVE only.
Galaxy-class Retrofit: See Operations Odyssey.
Odyssey: I've heard good reviews in general about this ship, but when flying on KDF side, I frequently blow these up. Good for tanking and healing, could be modified for damage dealing, but you will die more often.

Escorts:
Steamrunner: Accn to STOWiki, this is a fantastic ship. I have this, and other than the fact that its turning is a little slow, it's a good ship. Engineering BOFF seats will complement your inherent healing (Miracle Worker, etc).
Defiant: Popular escort, does the job nicely.
Prometheus: BOFF Science seats make for some interesting combat. MVAM is just for additional turn rate.
Armitage: I haven't flown this ship, apparently it is an effective escort due to the launching fighters capability along with cannons and the BOFF seats. The console helps too.

Science ships:

The only real science ship I recommend is the Vesta (other than the free RALH Reconnaisance ship). Fantastic ship, the Vesta, especially with the lance and Fermion field, if set up properly.

Hope this helps.

I'm looking for heavy assault, something that can wade in and do good damage while self-healing. I was thinking the carrier escort might work because I can use the 3 tac slots and pets to do a variety of damage types, while using 2 TT and my inherent Eng abilities to keep the ship in one piece long enough to win. I dont know if this is accurate expectation or if something else would be better

Go with the Galaxy X dreadnought
Great tank, great ability (spinal lance) and make you you get the subspace jump console
Au contraire mon capiten! He's back!

KDF Battlecruiser. If you want a fed ship, go for a FPE or JHEC. FPE is cheaper, but doesn't have pets. JHEC is more expensive, but has pets, doesn't require a fleet shipyard.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.
Tired of Wasting EC and Time trying to get Superior Romulan Operative BOffs? Here's a cheap and easy way to get them, with an almost 100% chance of success.

Still looking for suggestions here. I was going through the list earlier, and the only ship besides the Armitage that really jumps out at me is the Assault Cruiser Refit, due to the consoles and stats. But the Ambassador Support Cruiser Retrofit is very close to that in stats already--a little weaker in each area, and clearly inferior in total, but its not a wholly different ship. If I did the grinding for that, I would end up parking the Ambassador for storage, and be right back where I am now.

I'm not attracted to ships that require decloaking into surprise butsecz alpha strike

Hopefully somebody with a large personal fleet can clue me in, if I'm reading the situation wrong, but it seems that Armitage is the best choice *if* I'm willing to grind for it.

my fed is an engie, i primarily swap between adv escort & a mirror p/e.

the 2 ships i want to get are the hec for that cmdr engie slot.
and the fleet adv escort that im going to turn into a rom weapon boat with a hybrid speed setup.

both of which sound like ships that fit your description.
as it turns out, an intrepid would lose a fight with a connie.
and thats canon.
! the power of plot compels you.

If it's just PVE you're looking at, one of the Kumari escorts will do that job nicely.

I liked stardestoyer001's post. A lot of good information.

1. The Galaxy X Dreadnaught is light on console slots. It was the beast of burden in Season One but has been outclassed and outdated by everything created since. Which is sad, because I still love her.

2. The Tactical version of the oddy is a nice balance but you really need all three inherent consoles to get the advantages this ship brings to battle.

3. As an Engineer, I am 100% sold on the Fleet Retro Excelsior Cruiser. Man she is a joy to fly.

4. I have the heavy escort carrier and I would say, think reliant with a hanger bay. I do well in this ship as long as you run your pets as a tactical bonus. Use them to occupy your targets guns while you finish them off. I run quad cannon, dual heavy cannons in the front with Cutting beam and turrets in the rear. I see many captains running the plasma torpedo in the front but really my targets are dead before the main volley hits. I don't think you can go wrong with this ship.

An Engineer would do well in the HEC if you have your boffs trained right.

Happy Hunting

I looked at that but only room for one TT scared me off. It would probably be an interesting Engineer's ship with all those slots though. Whats your setup?
