so the same .dll files cause texture compression issues in game, which in turn causes a crash. which in turn causes a 30 minute patcher verification run (to play without repatching causes an instant crash, at least for me, other people can play fine after the crash).

today after doing so I played for another hour after reverifing and downloading the bugged files again. and now I try to login and get to char selection screen and have hit a version mismatch where it exits.

except the patcher doesnt patch and proceeds to char select.

the files it redownloads are.

dbghlp.dll
d3ddx9_37.dll

several libsfiles always redownload (lib is in the filename).

the .hogg errors from the log file are as follows.

Goodness. Did you login as administrator and/or are you running the game as admin ? Do you have antivirus running ? Have you defragged your drive lately ?

not one of those questions is of any relevance to the subject at hand.

it might work for people who aren't technically inclined.

the game has played fine for months, save for the few times per month when the issue at hand occurs, and the CTD happens.

it is always the same files that it redownloads.

it is always the same files which cause the decompression issues.

you should/could have asked.

video card type (gts250)

driver version of video drivers. (6.14.12.9573)

direct x version. (dx9)

operating system in question. (xp sp-3)

sli mode (no)

overheating issues on cpu (no)

overheating issues on video card (no)

overclocked system or video card (no)

the video driver is sort of old, so I will be updating it here in an hour or two. maybe that will fix it, but since other players have the same decompression problem, It is more than likely a software issue on the star trek end.

I have this issue as well. If I delete the three .hogg files labeled texture, texture2, and texture3 and have the launcher re-patch its works fine for a bit and then goes down again. And its always a error message similar to the ones in the OP. The crash always occurs during a zone change when it has to load a new texture.

You need to track down what is causing the file corruption to begin with... (Since 'its works fine for a bit' its not the file download itself...)

There are many things that can cause file corruption, from HD thats getting ready to fail, to loose cables, bad/overheated/undervolted memory, interference from Anti-Virus utilities, etc. etc.

I initially thought that, since I just replaced my RAM. The problem is that its the only program that is having a problem. If it was something to do with my computer, I would expect it to crash everything, but it only seems to be STO.

Now, it might have something to do with my RAM and STO together, since it did happen right after I installed new RAM, but I don't know how that could be just affecting STO.

Files corrupting themselves sound like a virus or hard disk problem. Also could be losing the power supply, mine recently was replaced after numerous unexpected shutdowns during gameplay, and problems magically disappeared.

It could be because the STO Client uses more RAM then the other application you run, and is triggering the memory fault that the other apps can't... Or, if its a intermittent RAM issue, you're playing with STO more then your other apps, with a greater chance of encountering the issue...
