My main has gone through various rewrites of his back story as the character grew but it's variations on a theme. I also like to have all my characters tied to each other in some way, even some of the bridge crew.

Federation

Archduke Antonio Valerio Cortez III of the Federation Affiliate of the Free Marches Confederacy. He's a Tactical Officer and was the first character I ever made. While his story has changed the avatar has as well. Over the years I've added a touch of gray to his beard and hair. It's stressful being baby sitter to the heir the the Confederacy.

Princess Maria Isabella Cortez. Niece to Vale and very mechanically inclined. She also tends to get into a lot of trouble, including spending a year as a Borg drone before her uncle managed to liberate her. As with her uncle she served briefly with Star Fleet prior to her assimilation. Post liberation, she is designing ships for the Confederacy.

Xune is a science character I let my sister make. And this is her entire biography. "This is a Drow. Drow do not belong in space."

KDF

Rishla, Orion tactical. She is a dissident. She would like to get her out of the KDF but can't. The next best thing she can do is be a mole for Vale who in turn arranged for her family to be taken out of Klingon space and to the Free Marches. Some of her family now serve on the ships of Vale or Bella. (Hurray Diplomatic exchange officers.)

Cheers. And thanks to everyone that's sharing. This is a fun thread to read.
Cheers from Antonio Valerio Cortez III, Half-Celestial Archduke of the Free Marches Confederacy.

Federation:
Edinger Deet
The son of Trill's ambassador to Andoria, Edinger Orlon grew up spending very little time amongst his own species. At age 16, Edinger became romanically involved with an Andorian girl named Tala. During a skiing trip in the Andorian Mountains, Tala was injured in a fall. Edinger found himself unable to comfort her while they waited for the medevac to arrive. Though she fully recovered, Edinger decided to devote his life to medicine, as to avoid that feeling of helplessness again. Edinger left Andoria shortly thereafter to join Starfleet Academy and become a medic. Upon graduation, he applied with the Trill symbiosis commission seeking to be joined. The symbiosis comission, as well as most of the symbionts, were reticent to allow someone who had spent so little time on Trill to be joined. Luckily for Edinger, a juvinile symbiant, the Deet symbiont, was eager to accept it's first joining. Edinger Deet then returned to Starfleet to pursue additional training Advanced Field Medicine. After several years on the front lines of the Klingon War, Edinger was awarded his first command aboard the U.S.S. North Star. After taking command, he reviewed many First Officer candidates, only to find that the best was a promising young Andorian tactical officer named Tala. Edinger Deet is currently best known as the commanding officer of the U.S.S. Sunnyvale.

Aznia Deet
In 2366, a Federation anthropological team, studying the native people of the remote planet Mintaka III, accidentally exposed the primitive culture to 24th century technology. The cultural damage was minimized thanks to the efforts of the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise-D. Unfortunately, the Mintakan's exposure to the Federation was more than cultural. During the encounter, a microscopic spore from a fungus native to Delta Rana was able to avoid filtration and was carried to the planet. Thriving in the environment, this fungus rapidly reproduced, and began to grow naturally. Unfortunately, these fungi proved highly toxic to the Mintakan people, and after many seasons of growth, began to significantly impact their health. In 2408, having learned of the damage, the Federation council agreed that their interference had caused the disaster. They decided they should intervene to stop the spread of the fungi. Despite the planet now being in Sheliak space; Trill's top specialist in field medicine, Admiral Edinger Deet was sent, in command of the U.S.S. Sunnyvale, to administer a solution. He proceeded to release a gaseous form of alizine over the affeted areas to neutralize the fungus, which quickly averted the crisis. After successful completion of the mission, the Sunnyvale left the Mintaka system and set a course home. Passing near Kavis Alpha, a Sheliak Corporate battleship opened fire on the Sunnyvale, considering its presence in the area a violation of treaty. Before they could narrowly escape, Admiral Edinger Deet was injured fatally and the Deet symbiont needed to be removed. The only other Trill officer aboard was Ensign Aznia Toma, who gladly agreed to save the symbiont. Upon joining, Aznia Deet found herself uncomfortable aboard the Sunnyvale, so she left First Officer Tala in command, and returned to Starfleet to pursue further training in both command and martial arts. Upon completion of command training, Aznia was awarded commission of the U.S.S. Matroshka. Aznia Deet is currently best known as the commanding officer of the U.S.S. Federalist.

In 2408, a small cell of Aenar terrorists contacted Trill mercenary Aznia Toma about a job. The Terran Empire had recently appointed a brutal Viceroy to rule Andoria, and they wanted him eliminated. Their hope was to use the opportunity to reunite the remaining Aenar and Andorians, thus liberating their homeworld. Though a particularly dangerous mission, Aznia took the job, believing in their cause. The assassination plot was carefully drawn. She tracked the Viceroy's movements, and determined that he occasionally left the planet on business to neighboring systems aboard his personal dreadnought, the I.S.S. Sunnyvale. Using a stolen folded-space transporter, she abducted the Viceroy from his own ship, and escaped at warp before being detected. Initially, the plan was simply to dematerialize the Viceroy's pattern, but when the transporter lock showed a Joined Trill life sign, Aznia found herself unable to follow through. Intrigued by the process of joining, Aznia quickly decided that this would likely be her only chance to experience symbiosis. Erecting a containment field around the transporter pad, Aznia rematerialized the Viceroy, who obstinately identified himself as Edinger Deet. She had anesthizine gas pumped into the containment area, rendering the Viceroy unconscious, before ordering her ship's surgeon to remove the symbiont and join it with her. Viceroy Edinger died during surgery, but the procedure was a success for Aznia Deet. Her newly conflicted personality was unsure what to do. When the Terran Empire discovered the fate of the Viceroy, they placed a bounty on the head of Aznia Deet. Using her last loyal contacts, she procured transport to the 'prime' mirror universe. Escaped to the other side, her freighter was immediately caught in the midsts of a skirmish between Tholians and Klingons. Her ship was damaged critically in the battle, but the Klingon captain was impressed by her honorable fight, and offered her asylum among the KDF. Aznia Deet is currently best known as the commanding officer of the I.K.S. Imperialist.

Haven't you ever had the problem that you only seem to be playing with one of your characters and end up deleting your other and such?

Specially with the new rep system it is a pain to work on toons. Any tips?

I also have the problem with naming,.. rather expensive.. LOL

I have three characters. 2 Starfleet and 1 KDF.

The only one I actually took the time to write a back story for was my female Romulan (Alien), T'Manda Letant (found a Romulan name generator online). I tried to make her look as close to a Romulan as I could get her. Anyway, her story has her as the daughter of a Romulan general, born on Romulas shortly before its destruction, her father was able to evacuate her and her mother before Romulas was destroyed. She joined the Romulan military when she was old enough, and quickly rose through the ranks gaining command of her own warbird just barely in her twenties. An excellent captain, she even commanded the respect of the KDF in battle. One night during her weekly transmissions to her father and mother, her father told her of his discovery of a Tal Shiar plot involving an unknown enemy. At that moment though, men entered her family's home on Rator III and all she could do was watch helplessly as her parents were murdered by agents of the Tal Shiar. She reckognized the leader as Hakeev, a Tal Shiar commander who had approached her previously offering her a position in which she declined. She vowed reveng before scrambling her comm frequencies. Not knowing who she could trust she informed her most loyal crew members of her plan to defect to the Federation. Only a few light years from the Federation border, her ship was ambushed by three Tal Shiar ships. Her ship and crew fought valiantly destroying two of the aggressors, but ultimately succumbing to fire from the third. Before evacuating, she sent out a distress call on all frequencies. The USS Hood responded and quickly dispatched the third attacking ship. Her ship and crew, unable to return home, were given asylum in the Federation. Most of her crew settled on Vulcan. Never caring much for Vulcans, she elected instead to settle on Earth. She immediately fell in love with it and swore to protect it from any who would do it harm. She obtained her citizenship and eventually joined Starfleet. She graduated at the top of her class and was eventually given a command. She rose through ranks quickly and eventually got her chance at revenge at Hakeev. Killing her foe, she was finally at peace. She continues to protect her adopted home from any and all that would harm it.

That's her back story. If Cryptic were offer the option, I would love to be able repatriate T'Manda back to the Romulan side, or at least have Romulan parts with which to properly make a Romulan character.

When I made the mirror universe variant of my character, I actually had to hand-write down every one of her characteristics in the player creater, then re-create her perfectly.

Don't we have a thread like this every 6 months?
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have stuff to rant about on the forums!

Biff Iron-slab, Orion Male.

Born in the slums, Biff was raised by the roaming sexual assault gangs that preyed on vulnerable youngest-vice-admiral-top-of-her-class-at-Starfleet-Academy-to-be's. Biff achieved full membership in the gang at 14. By the age of 16, he had already traumatized and sold at least 200 women, time-travelling space-elves, and secret princesses, all of whom would inevitably kill their captains and steal their starships in order to take revenge/seek their fortunes/dance like strippers on a sleazy bar somewhere. Biff retired from generating background material for horribly-written character biographies after decades of churning out child prodigies with deep-seated sexual abuse issues, and now spends his days reminding them that they are bad roleplayers, and they should feel bad.
