Sounds like they ally with one of the other ingame factions. BUT I'm gonna play it like my fed starter toon: never play that deciding mission and level up by doing the routine grind, that way he'll be authentically neutral and still be at max level.

I'll make the choice when it's convenient (and beneficial) for my toon, like a true Romulan captain.

BTW, good job avoiding ANY mention of KDF inclusion in the update DS, thats why we have so much faith in you.

So we aren't a Romulan Faction we're just the "native auxiliaries" for the mighty Federation and Klingon Empires? Such BS.

Which brings up the question when exactly will this "Choosing a side" mission happen ? I hope I don't have to level to 50 to actually join my fleet.

there are a lot of players that want to do pvp, but they don't 'cuz at this point pvp in sto is nonsense. in addition the pvp's reward is very lame and we don't have a leaderboard or some ranks.

If we all live in boxes that doesn't mean my box is the same color like yours

True, but none of those things have anything to do with the number of sides to choose.

During one of the episodes in the Romulan Republic storyline, the Federation and Klingon Defense Force will challenge Romulan captains to choose sides in the Federation-Klingon War. This permanent and personal choice forges a very important alliance. Once this decision is made, individual Romulan captains will gain many benefits through their alliance, all the while remaining their own independent faction. Romulans still continue their own independent mission journal and storyline after this choice, remaining neutral within the Romulan faction, but the choice has an impact on their progression towards end-game.
Interesting. Can't wait for more details on this and the benefits each alliance will provide, so we can make a more informed choice. (Guess I'll be making two Romulan characters )

Q: (archanubis) Will Romulan characters be able to access the Romulan Reputation System?

Dstahl: Yes, they?ll gain access to the same reputation and rewards including the ability to unlock the Reman species through the New Romulus Reputation.
Moar grind!

Q: (felderburg) Will basic Romulan ships have the three standard variant, escort, cruiser, science?

Dstahl: Romulans have their own unique ship class, Warbirds, which is the first new ship class in STO. This new class uses singularity cores instead of warp cores and introduces new ship combat powers tied to the harnessed energy released by the singularity core.

Max-level Romulan Republic captains will find a nice variety of Warbirds that each gravitate towards a specific type of existing ship class and play style. There will be some Warbirds that lean towards existing classes (escort, cruiser, science, etc.) that players are familiar with, though they will all feel distinct in that they are from the new Warbird class.
Nice pun :p I wonder how the singularity core works? Sounds like a sciency kinda thing..

Probably at Lieutenant Commander. Otherwise you'd be stuck with only the single ship class.

Actually now that I think about it this makes me want to play a Romulan even more. Now that I know I can help build up my fleet's existing bases rather than having to start yet another one, I find that the prospect of rolling a new character doesn't seem so tedious anymore. Me likey.

It says a full ship progression from level 1 to 50. I strongly suspect that Romulans will have more than one ship per tier...
