I have run the Dreadnought as an offensive tank with the advanced shield repair drones and 4x RCS consoles. I was getting just under 14* turning, just enough to do a pretty good job of keeping 180* cannons on target and coming around to launch a torpedo HY/TS volley.
I am running the Jem'Hadar MK XII space kit and Phased Polaron weapons.
It's not bad and you can use the shield repair bets almost like a heal. When you're shields are starting to take a beating, hit evasive maneuvers to turn and run and deploy the shield drone. They can heal ya up pretty fast and usually survive.
I tested it on a Tarantula ship in one of the ALERTs and I was able to get right into the thick of it, dish out DPS and survive.
However, while it was kinda fun, it's not as exciting as taking my Chimera into the same fight, but I can't get in there and slug it out.
I like the Dreadnought. I'm looking forward to better fighter pets once I level up to tier 5.
not fast enough for DHCs with 6 turn rates. with 4 RCSs i think you can get like 10-12 and still a little low for DHCs (and you have to lose 4 engineering consoles).
in pve you can use 4x RCS and DHCs but will be frustrating in stfs. you won't be able to protect the kang alone in the cure 'cuz you have to turn 180 decrees too many time and your evasive maneuvers has a big coldown.
in pvp tractor beam is very usefull but it's not very helpfull for your DHCs. people will break it very easy with polorize the hull, jam sensors or scramble sensors. in addition even if you have 4 RCS mk xii purple you can't hit a bug ship with your DHCs. it was almost imposible with a vesta and it will be almost imposible with the dread.
dread is a tank and tanking with only your front shields will get you killed, expacially if you don't have any res engineering consoles. if you use DHCs and you have to turn around to keep your shields up your dps will drop a lot.
If we all live in boxes doesn't mean that my box is the same color as yours
I'm easily able to tank and or heal in mine while still having high dps. And just because its big doesn't make it a major target.
Please define "easily". Easily as in hitting a bunch of buttons? Or easily as in specific encountered scenarios of your effectiveness in throwing team heals, and able to take fire from multiple escorts while being subnuc'd?
And I never intended that the size means it is a soft target. Its lack of effective engineering slots and its slow movement and turn rate, coupled with the fact that it is essentially a moving starbase but with not-so-strong defenses means it is usually fired on at one point or another. I'm not criticizing your build, but I have found that a large portion of Dreadnought captains have their ships ill-equipped for durability...
